One of the lads from my SZFC side seems to think that Chelski could fill a 90,000 capacity stadium.

This is the same person who came out the other week after a game and said teams play better with 10 men.

Is Carter True Blue living with his head in the clouds?

They could possibly fill a 60,000 capacity stadium in The Emirates mould, but never a 90,000. They just havent got the fanbase Man United or Barcelona have in order to fill it.

There's absolutely no way they could if the ticket prices stayed the same. If they slashed the prices down to a fiver, then maybe.

The fact is, Chelsea haven't capitalised on their success. There's a few newbie fans, mainly kids in non-football towns outside of London, but they don't attract floating support like Liverpool or Man Utd did.

They're simply a relentless one-nil machine with a total lack of class across the club and that doesn't attract support.

90,000 at £50 a ticket? Not a chance.

I tend to agree with Carter on the 10 men front, it is invariably hard to play against 10 men as they put the extra effort in and you are never sure of their positioning..

As for the Chelsea thing, maybe if it was a challenge but ordinarily probably not.

Carter, you are a stupid boy!!

If thats the case why do teams not just start with 10 men?

No they couldn't, I used to go regularly to Chelsea in the late 80's / early 90's as they were my "big team". They have a good core support but you could argue that they aren't even the second biggest team in London. Spus have definitely been a bigger club over the past 20 years and West Ham have regularly got better attendances over that period.

When I've been to Stamford Bridge in the last 5 years the West Stand has had a fair few tourists / daytrippers in it. Even with their recent success I can't see them matching the Mancs, Arsenal or Liverpool for wider appeal.

For me a better measure of comparitive size is the turnout when a club is doing badly.

Such as Birmingham City's abysmal attendances this season despite being at or very near the top of the Championship. 55k stadium for them sounds stupid too (although as I said yesterday I assume this is for reasons similar to SUFC regarding economies of scale etc)

There's been a few rumours going round that Liverpool are scrapping their 60,000 stadium which has passed all planning permission etc in favour of a 80,000 one

Cos thats the rules!!

And they let you manage(allegedly) a football team!!

No chance! Would be good though cause would be easy to get a ticket for cup games when Shrimpers aren't playing. Wasn't even full when I went to see them play against Wycombe.
