Coronavirus

And I can't believe how young, fit and well people are getting their panties in a twist over a virus that will give them nothing more than a cough & headache for a few days.

I understand (as i've said a million times) that at risk groups need protection but the rest of us? Come on.

and if huge numbers of elderly people need to be hospitalised around the same time then the health service won’t be able to cope and the knock on effect could last years and effect thousands needing treatment for all sorts of serious issues resulting in terrible consequences. That’s why we need to do everything to slow the spread.

And that’s before we get to the facts that the current NHS setup isn’t sufficient enough to deal with the threat.

The story about there not being the necessary amount of ventilators in the Country, should be concern enough, but what happens when 10% (or more) of the NHS workforce goes down with the same sickness?

No health service on the planet would cope.

Correct

this isn’t all in the news but it is factually accurate
Many/all Hospitals are cancelling elective operations ( if it isn’t necessary to keep you alive expect it to be cancelled)
1st- 4th year medical students are not being trained in hospitals as staff are too busy to supervise. Exams are not taking place, students will pass the year
Liverpool uni 5th year students have been told they can not be trained in hospital ( medical students spend most of their 5th year in hospitals training). They are being pressurised to “volunteer “ to work in the local hospitals.
It’s unclear how they will finish their studies, pay to be worked out.

bham university is now mobilising 1-4th year medical students. They are being asked to volunteer to work in local hospitals ( admin, porters etc) or child care for NHS staff. I would imagine other unis are doing the same as it is part of the NHS plan

Got a text today from the NHS to say 8 need to isolate for 12 weeks.

I work for an NHS frontline service and did not want to leave my colleagues to it.

Things are going to get bad, very bad, before they get better.
