Corbett

BoyWonder2

2024, the year of the Shrimpers ⭐🦐
What has happened to Jim Corbett this season? I went along to many of the pre-season friendlies and along with Husbands looked our best player yet he can't force his way into a weak bench. I'm struggling to see what he has done wrong. Is something happening behind the scenes that we don't know about? Is he simply out of favour? Is he injured?

Our bench in the last two games has consisted of Flahavan, Hunt, Wilson, Barrett and Dudfield. Why hasn't Jimmy or Husbands been there? With the exception of Dudfield that is an extremely defensive bench. Barrett is a centre half and was used today because of an injury but will rarely come off the bench unless more defenders become injured during the game. Hunt and Wilson are both defensive minded and are utility men. Why do we need both on the bench? Surely subsitutions are used to change the pattern of the game. Now, like today, we are behind and have already brought on Dudfield yet its still not working what is Tilson going to do?

Surely we need another attacking option on the bench to spice things up and give us an extra attacking impetus? Husbands provided this Vs Cheltenham and was then dropped for the next two games.

I agree with you, from the 4 pre season games I went to, Corbett was easily one of the best performers. Let's not forget as well that in his notes in the LDV Final programme, Drewe said Corbett was without a doubt, technically the best player at the club. Why hasn't he been given a chance?

I admire the hard work Pettefer puts in, but the simple fact is, Corbett could do far more for us in that position.

In the two games I've been to this season Pettefer has offered us no width what so ever. Yes he is with doubt a hardworker but I'd rather see Corbett or Husbands wide.

You can't be serious! If there's anywhere we need the technical abilities of Corbett it's upfront at the moment. Pets is fine where he is if we didn't have him in our team then god help us really.

I think Corbett is better with the ball at his feet running at players not with his back to goal holding the ball up. Its gotta be Drewenaldo and Dudfield up top.

I disagree with you about Pettefer, I wasn't over the moon when we signed him, to be perfectly honest I wouldn't have cared had he gone back to Pompy. I don't think he offers us much. He lacks pace and a decent delivery to be a good winger and I haven't seen enough of him as a central midfielder. He wouldn't get in the middle over Maher, Smith and Bentley anyways. Like I've said, I agree he is hardworking but I'd like to know what you feel he gives us.

Have to agree that Corbett is well worth a start - Petts is a good player but I dont really see him as a winger....Corbett is a super player when he is running on the ball and I really enjoy watching him....

Time to at leats get him on the bench as we dont need Hunt,Barrett and Che

I would try Pettefer in the middle and put Corbett or Husbands on the wing. I'm not saying it would work but at the moment anythings worth a try. I'm not sure but I think Jimmys injured.

Hmmm, I am not saying you are wrong that JC's injured, but it seems to contradict what Tilly was saying on the pre-match update on the Official Site on Friday...

Injury in training, maybe? Prior to kick-off, possibly? or at home? could be any of those... so anyone with concrete news, let us know!

Absolutely. Corbett looks for the knock downs whereas no other forward we have does.

Agree. Corbett at the start of last season (particulary with Bramble) looked hugely impressive. He must have a good technique or Blackburn wouldn't have payed £250,000 for him. He posseses good pace and can finish, so why not give him half an hour on Saturday too see what he can do. I remember him coming on half way through last season with about 20 minutes to go and showed real determination and fight. He looked like he wanted to get a first team spot. So why has he been completely disguarded so far. Some would say strength of squad, so why have we not scored one from open play this season?
