connecting a ps3 to the internet?

First of all, im not really a computer wiz but I know a little! Ive just bought a blue ray film and tried watching it on my ps3 but it says I need a system update via the internet to watch it. I have a router but no ethernet cable. Is it as simple as buying an ethernet cable, connecting the ps3 to the router and job done? Do I need some kind of ps3 network card (which I know nothing about)? Can I just connect via wi-fi? Just got my ps3 and I'd like to play games online at some point anyway so any help would be great as im clueless!

good luck mate. I had this problem. I had to buy all of the following, and strongly recommend you do...

wireless bridge http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-Uni...WJYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324415656&sr=8-1

wireless aerial usb thing http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-...1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324415694&sr=1-3

network card http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-...1_8?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324415738&sr=1-8

cable http://www.amazon.co.uk/NO-BRAND-PP...1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324415765&sr=1-1

Once you've got all that you'll probably need to upgrade your router to this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-Wir...23?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324415797&sr=1-23 as most aren't powerful enough

good luck

or you can read the ****ing manual and find out how to connect by wifi you moomin

If you are able to connect the PS3 straight to the router via ethernet cable then this would be best for online gaming. After plugging in the cable, on the ps3 to go to settings, network settings, internet connection settings, which will start the wizard and select easy, which will set up most of the settings for you and if your internet is protected by password it'll ask you to enter it in. Then test the connection to make sure it works.

With wi-fi its the same, just choose the wireless connect settings instead of the wired.

No need for network cards or anything else as the PS3 has it all built in.
