Computer Help Needed

2 Weeks ago I tried to set up a network using an ethernet cable, connecting my laptop to my mates computer in order to copy over all my music on to his computer.

I gave up half way through and simply burned it all onto 10 DVD discs. Now though, when i'm connected to my wireless internet I get a box pop up asking me to connect to the network I set up... I just press cancel, as It should have nothing to do with my internet connection, however if i'm loading a website it won't let me access it saying that I should check my connection.

Is there any way I can just delete that network?

You can't use a normal ethernet cable for that, you need what's called a crossover cable.
