Competitions

The Fresh Prince of Belfairs⭐⭐🦐
The ITV competitions thread has got me wondering....

Has anyone ever entered a competion and won anything?

Casting my mind back the only thing I can ever recall winning was a 6 foot tall giant panda in a raffle during a night drinking in the Cork and Cheese pub back in 1989 when I was 16.

The odd thing was when I walked to the bus stop I bumped into another reveller who had independently won a similar item at another pub.

Please post your stories (excluding wins at the bookies/track/casino).

I am particularly interested in anyone that has won a day out with a celebrity or sportsperson and if they made your day special or treated you like you were a complete ***t.

I won a 2 grand carbon bike frame out of the Cycling Weekly once.
It's still never been ridden & only half put together in my garage.

When I was 12 I won a week on the Bobby Robson Soccer fun week out of the local paper.

The Mrs won £250 in a prize draw at our local Car Wash place about a month ago too.

My mate won 2 tickets for the last Speedway GP at Cardiff & my work colleague is constantly winning tickets for gigs off the radio or out of the Metro.

See, there are genuine winners out there.

I have also just remembered that my brother won a Roland Rat 'RatPack' goodie bag after entering a competion on TV-AMs 'Rat on the road' during the mid 1980's.

I nearly choked on my cornflakes when Ann Diamond read out his name on TV.

I've won tickets to a basketball game I already had tickets too. Only difference wa that these were court-side. They also completely cut the atmosphere out of the game and meant that you had to look out for flying basketballs.

I found a green polo once and won a tenner.

My aunt won a newspaper competition and has won 4 week long holidays, she's been to Canada and Morocco so far.

I would have won the speedboat with my Uncle Augustus on Bullseye back in 1983. We wouldn't have gambled our food processor, 12 inch black and white TV and his and hers digital watches, not to mention Bully's Special Prize Commodore home PC, had it not been for the baying audience screaming "GAMBLE" at the top of their voices following Jim Bowen's prompting.

Anyway, suffice to say after I scored 41 with my three darts, Uncle A (as the dart player) hit 20, 20 and then completely bottle it and hit double 3 to blow it for us. Bowen, screams look what you would have won. Bang goes the speedboat, bang goes our prizes, including Bully's Special one, bang goes the money we won in the first part of the show. All we get is our BFH (bus Fare Home). Despair.

Mind you, we had a loooovely day. Just wish we could have given someone else a chance. Thankfully, our Charity money, won by Big Cliff Lazarenko, amounting to £280 was safe. Uncle A pocketed that I think, as he got a weeks holiday with his wife and kids in Torremolinos.

C'est la vie.

That must win the prize for biggest win of all on this thread

It was out of date as well.

Most recently, I entered a competition run by the MCC and the RNIB for volunteer cricket commentators at Lord's for blind visitors. Rather surprisingly, I was one of the commentators selected, and have just spent the last weekend commentating from the Test Match Special box at Lord's. It's probably the best competition I've ever won...

I've got a photo of me in the TMS commentary box, but not sure how to put it up on-line... any suggestions? Anyhow, all being well, Lord's will be streaming the service as of next season, so you can hear me wittering on about Strangeley-Brown coming in from the Pavillion End...

Other competitions won...

* Disco Dancing competition, aged 6 (I got a badge)
* Childrens' ITV Poetry Competition, aged 13 (I got a "Look-In" annual, and didn't have to meet Matthew Kelly...

)
* SUSCT 100 Club raffle - twice.

* £10 on the lottery... once.

Err, that's probably about it...

I won a karaoke contest in the Spread Eagle a couple of years ago for my dodgy rendition of Suspicious Minds with my backing vocalists of McNasty, GNH, Snowy and Patsy Klubb.

My prize? A bottle of Red Wine, which I never got to taste

Is there any video footage of this, I'd pay good money to see that

As a kid I won a competition on Capital Gold to lead out one of the charity sides in the 1994 Autowindscreens Trophy at Wembley between Huddersfield and Swansea

Some of the ''celebs'' that played includedChris Evans, David Baddiel, Angus Deayton and Jim Rosenthal

Great day will never forget walking out of the wembley tunnel onto the pitch kicking a ball around with the teams

The stuff that dreams are made of

It will come as no suprise to those of you that know me to find out I won Britains Most Gorgeous Baby back in 1979 in the critically aclaimed Mother and Baby Magazine.

My prize was a Harrods Hamper or sometihng of that ilke but needless to say I say very little of the winnings.

My best mate just won a SMEG fridge out the NOTW which was fantastic.

I won a very nice (and very appreciated) £1,000 in the last year's Shrimpers Trust Christmas Draw.

I won a fancy dress competition back in about 1978 dressed as Darth Vader; I won £5. The most I have won on the lottery was about £600 back in 2001. Oh, and I won the inaugural ShrimperZone Prediction League a few years back and won a replica shirt signed by Mark Rawle.

My son won a Playstation 2 which we almost lost because we thought the e-mail was a joke. He'd entered into a prize draw on some kiddy site. I won a night at the Jazz Cafe in Camden with £50 cash opening a Snickers wrapper a couple of years ago.

I won a copy of Roland Rat's 'Rat Rappin' on 7" vinyl for drawing the best picture of Kevin the Gerbil at Cubs.

I also won some lego from a Yellow Advertiser competition though I can't remember what it was I drew for that one.
