What is everyone doing for drinking.
We could go to yates in southend and all get train together around could be a right laugh!

Why are none of the Pubs open then? I know its a local derby, but still... Its not like it will end up as a bad day in Bosnia...

I was under the impression The Maypole was the designated away supporters pub?

I have heard nothing about pubs being closed on the day, certainly the Maypole is the designated away fans pub this season.Trouble is its a fair way from the ground if you are walking, if you take the car there you will struggle to park near the ground later.

is it open on Saturday? Are all the pubs around the ground closed?

I dont know of any that are closed Terry, try giving them a ring to check it out.

From the official site.

Col******r United are delighted to have teamed up with The Maypole pub, which is now the Official Away Supporters Pub for the 2005/6 campaign.

Located on Berechurch Hall Road, less than five minutes drive from the Layer Road stadium, the pub is one suitable for families and large groups.

A full food menu is served every day from 12pm, with prices starting from £3.95 and it possesses a large car park and secure garden for its customers.

Run by Ali and Tina Voy, The Maypole has a pool table, darts board and Sky Sports on plasma screen for all of the action leading up to kick off.

With an extensive range of beers, wines and ales, the U's are happy to recommend this venue as a great place to go before the game.

Ali and Tina can be contacted ahead of a visit to Col******r United on 01206 578170.

In any case if those guys are closed (which I doubt) there are loads of pubs within a short drive of the ground, and three or four within a fairly short walking distance of the ground.

Good man Terry. Somebody that isn't just bothered a boozer, but one that serves decent beer.
A man after my own heart. Though you probably wouldn't want my heart, if you know what I mean.
Too much of the subject matter...

Have any of those got real ale at all?
One of the best pubs in Col******r for real ale is (and forgive the name

 ) the Odd One out.
However there is no food and no parking!
This is a really weird old fashioned pub with no music or anything like that, but some of the best beer you will ever taste, Camra has rated it very highly on many occasions.
It is only a stones throw from the town centre, and if you walk through the army road's to the ground it is only a 20 minute walk at the most, you also walk past the Abbey Fields where there is free match day parking for 1000 cars.
You could also try the Dragoon down Butt Road, this is where a lot of home and away fans will be and it serves some reasonable stuff as well, and is also good for food but gets packed on match days.
Try looking at this link below for what others think of the Odd One Out, and the Dragoon, be assured you would have to be not driving after visiting these boys....
If you want any more help, just ask, I can reccomend quite a few decent boozers just a little out of town, but obviously you will not want to be too far away from the ground.

I was in there to mate, a bit lively that day

That pub has died a death now, no longer is it the spiritual home of the Col U fan, the Dragoon tends to be where a lot of fans both home and away are to be found.

yes, a few farmers in the pub got a bit lively until some horrible man from Southend let off some CS gas on them.

They soon simmered down a bit after that, until after the game when it got a bit lively once more....

Those were the days.
