Tomorrow's referee is Simon Hooper from Swindon making his second visit to Roots Hall in his 4th season as a League referee.

His previous visit was the match against Brighton (0-1) which I believe sealed our relegation the year before last. Only a couple of yellows. He has not refereed a Southend away game.

His card count last season was on the low side and he doesn't seem to have attracted too much adverse publicity of late.

Assisting him will be Darren Blunden (no blunder jokes please) from dartford and Graham Horwood from Luton who was a League referee who got chucked off at the end of last season. Fourth official Richard Kendall will be joining Horwood on the journey from bedfordshire.

When contemplating games against Northampton, the fantastic 4-4 draw in the Cup always comes to mind. Anything 5% as entertaining will be a bonus.

Didn't we lose 4-3 to them in the same month as that 4-4 as well, then lose the cup replay 3-2? 20 goals in 3 games. Happy days (apart from the defeats of course)

What a great game that 4-44 was.

We lost the replay 3-2 with Pennyfather ans Caddette scoring for us and then lost 0-4 a few weeks latter on Boxing Day 1986.

Mick, can I ask you what your thoughts were on the Dickinson red card from midweek?

EDIT - in fact ignore that, I've just read your comments on another thread. Thanks.

We did indeed. Their second and third goals were both penalties.

I wouldnt mind having the ref that took charge of the game tuesday. gave us everything!

Indeed he did; the more the gruesome twosome of Evans and Raynor shouted, swore, engaged in histrionics etc, the less they got. You're not meant to do that but I'm sure I''d do the same.
