Matches against Northampton over the years are balanced nicely at 44 wins apiece from 115 games in all competitions, the highlight of which must have been the 4-4 draw in the Cup.
Tomorrow's referee is Tim Robinson from Bognor Regis (not to be confused with the cricket umpire of the same name).
He is in his third season as a League referee and has progressed well and has already been given a few Championship matches in each of the last couple of seasons.
His first appearance at Roots Hall was also his first ever League match for our 1-0 home defeat to Accrington at the start of the season before last. A forgettable match, like most of Sturrock's home games that season (and many since!). He cautioned Prosser and a couple of theirs and whilst he wasn't wonderful, he has certainly improved.
That improvement was evident in the second Southend match he refereed, the drawn home match with Bristol Rovers early last season when I thought he had a very good match. He cautioned 4 of theirs and for us, again, Prosser. Prosser was actually very lucky his yellow wasn't a red !
His only other Southend match was 51 weeks ago at Plymouth for the 1-1 draw there, with just two cautions for Plymouth and none for us.
He was, more recently, 4th official at our match at Luton earlier this season.
His yellow card count is high: 73 yellows and 2 reds from 17 games, but, unusually, more than half of the yellows and both the reds were shown to home players. So no sign of a "homer" here, as further evidenced by a run of 14 consecutive matches without a home win which was only brought to an end at Wimbledon last weekend.
Assistants are Mark Mellor from Hemel Hempstead and Michael Webb from Woking with Stuart Eagland from Lichfield as Fourth Official.
