club shop

I knew it was a long shot but I phoned the club and they said that if I popped down the club shop I might be able to get my shirt printed. I went down there at 2.00 and asked if I could have my ldv final shirt printed with Prior on it and the answer straight away without any explanation was a rude 'NO', and I didnt even get a smile. The club shop was fairly busy so maybe I could understand but there was 4 people working in there at that time. I asked if i could get it done tomorrow (saturday) and the answer was still no. I couldnt even leave it overnight. As I walked off I over heard one of them saying to another 'I cant be bothered to do anyshirt printing' I was gobsmacked.

I then walked down to the ticket office to get some oxford tickets and I saw the one in the club shop (claire i think is her name) walking across the carpark with coat and bag as if she was going for lunch. That really annoyed me, she could have taken a lunch break just 5 minutes later and printed my shirt for me. Well the club has lost a tenner out of this. It doesnt sound alot but if fans keep getting rejected then it soon adds up. Im sure Ron Martin wont be happy to hear that his staff are turning away paying customers because they cant be bothered and go off on a break. Im angry about this .

Not exactly top customer service and I would also feel aggrieved if it happened to me. Maybe you should fire it off as a complaint to the club. I however, was more fortunate and have got a different slant on things:-

After Friday nights game I rushed into the club shop and asked for an LDV shirt, I was told they were sold out but were having a delivery on Tuesday. I explained that I lived a distance away from the club and wouldn't be able to get to the shop before the LDV final.

The assistant was most helpful and sold me one of the pre oredered shirts that hadn't been collected. I was very impressed with this.

I often think to myself that I would love to take over the shop for a percentage of the turnover. The potential for making money is still quite big and all it needs is a bit of enthusiasm and organisation. I know I am repeating what has been said before, but the club just don't seem to care about the shop. No stock, no decent staff, obviously no money being made (or not as much as they could make).

With two trips to Cardiff (hopefully not three) and a major promotion push, the shop should be coining it.

If it isn't, then it needs sorting - a great opportunity sadly missed.

The shop always does a stirling job for me (ordering online), always nice to hear the lovely essex ladies acent after weeks of brummy!

what ever the club, or McScriven try to say, the club shop and there customer service clearly is and has always been abismal. (ie Ron Martins interview in the fanzine, were he agrees)It astounds me how backward thinking the club are when it comes to there marketing and promotion, the staff are all from the 'Southend Bubble' and seem to have the 'my lunch is more important than giving that extra inch' mentality, sure there are good and bad apples in every batch, the guys that work there nuts off must obviously feel exactly the same as me and many others.

I have worked in the commercial, sales and recruitment side of Buisness in london for the past 8 years, and it really does amaze me how some buisnesses are run localy.

Sorry, but I think what you are saying is total rubbish!

Did you not realise how busy we were?
Maybe you should have spent a day working there to realise how manic it has been and how hard we have worked to please as many people as we could?
I was there until 6:30 the other night printing shirts and have brought shirts home for people to collect because they could not make it to the ground in working hours!

Stop the moaning for once and enjoy the weekend!

That b******s and you know it, customer service isn't rocket science its not even advanced calculus.

The grevience is the fact that the customer got short shrift. If the person behind the counter had said something along the lines of:-

'Sorry but unfortunately we really can't do the printing at the moment due to being short staffed, however if you'd like to leave the shirt here and pick it up tomorrow then we'll have it done by then.' Then a situation wouldn't have occurred. A simple 'No' wouldn't have cut it with me I'd have been much more persistent.

Having worked in many pressured retail environments (luckily I managed to escape from it 10 years ago) I know I would've been lynched by both customer and management if i treated a customer the way which was descrideb in the first post. I think SUFC need to bring in someone with a retail/senior management background to get that excuse of a shop in some sort of order.

Its a f**kin disgrace!

People are employed to deal with these situations I am afraid. Printing a shirt takes all of a few minutes and to get this type of response is poor. I'd only ever accept it if we were guaranteed to win on Sunday and win the league 2

The Club shop is not M&S or one of the High street retailers, In all honesty I would doubt it would be viable as an independent concern, So why are people expecting High Street service. The shop deals with a regular trickle of custom for 7 months, next to nothing for two and has a busy patch occasionally. A rush like this past few weeks is going to cause some difficulties....

It life, it happens, a larger established retail concern would have the ability and infrastructure to dal with it, we are a small professional football club, running a retail outlet to try and make up for the fact that for 8 out of 9 years and 50% of the games in the 9th year, we do not get enough paying customers to cover our costs. Man U superstore it aint.
Give these people a break, in all honesty (no offence here) if they wanted pressure retail work, these people would not have chosen SUFC and would probably get paid a damn site more for it.....

Are you trying to suggest that im making it up? calling me a liar?

maybe I should have kicked up a fuss in the club shop then all the other people, staff and customers would have known the truth but im not that kind of person.

the simple fact is that im the paying customer and the situation wasnt dealt with properly. like one of the previous posts said about the response of sorry were too busy at the moment but if you leave it with us we will get it done for you in a quiet moment, but no thats just to simple.
