Question Cleaning up Roots Hall

Three years ago I was one of four fans who answered the call to help clean up Roots Hall ahead of the first game of the season. The initiative grew but when the consortium took over they weren’t too keen to have fans helping as it didn’t particularly reflect well on the club. However, it went ahead was well supported and of course that extraordinary and moving Tifo at Wembley would not have happened if not. I was wondering if it’s going to happen this pre season.

my wife and i have been down the last 2 seasons i`m sure this seasons the stands will still have foxes poo around and the seats covered in pigeon s..t . so guessing yes they would like some help .

This is something we have already discussed with the Club and while there is a view that the Consortium don't want to be seen to be relying on fans to do stuff which really should be under their remit, they recognise the bonding process and invincible community spirit that arose out of the original "Clean Up Day".

They have already agreed that we can get volunteers in to give the Shrimpers Bar a much needed going over, but are hoping that this will coincide with a day for others to come along, particularly tradespeople with specific (and much needed) skills.

It's certainly on the agenda for close season. Watch this space, as they say!

Thanks for the update @OldBlueLady

Do you know any information regarding any updates postseason in the west? The street food and new toilets will now be exclusive to the north bank, so I'm wondering what is happening with the west. We were all a little disappointed that the new upgrades now won't be available to those of us in the west. So are any improvements in the pipeline? Those toilets are an absolute joke, particularly for the ladies.

I hope the South upper is top of the agenda this year.

Last year we had to navigate our way through the foxes poo 💩 😢 and people couldn't sit there towards the west stand end it needs sorting as really bad also any chance of a tea bar up there for snacks and hot drinks.

Volunteer Supporters were up there cleaning last season so maybe you could pop along this time and make sure they clean up the S..t to your standards.

Why doesn’t the club lay on a BBQ for volunteers and turn it into a bit of an event?

The cost would be minimal and it would generate a lot of good will.

A wonderful legacy of that original clean up was the beginnings of true two way engagement between supporters and Club and forever embellished by the now iconic image of that young Shrimper showing how to 'Never Give Up'
Out of something so dark grew a bright seed.
In my opinion we should celebrate that coming together every year even if it becomes more of a social event than a practical need and if nothing else its an endorsement of what can be achieved when Supporter's come together which is how Roots Hall was built in the beginning.
