Clarke, midfiled?

i think he's a pretty decent centre back but tilly shouldnt put him out of position, even if gutters is playing poorly at the moment. he surely won't start against col u, hopefully mccormick will start.

don't get me wrong its through no fault of his own he did his best but just isn't cut out for a midfield role.

we need someone attacking and someone who doesn't muck around right outside our penalty area

possibly mccormich is the man?

Pretty much a mute point now as the general consensus of opinion is that Gutts is gone.

Expect to see Clarke on the bench Saturday with Maher and Mac in central midfield and Clarke to replace Spinners tiring legs about 60 minutes in.

just for your information its McCormack not mccormich, and yes i agree he should start against col ewe he changed the game when he came on, you can tell he really wants to play for southend

And so does Clarkey. If that was Gutts giving the ball away in the same fashion as P.C. his head would go down and he would have a real 'mare and not put in the effort to make things right.

We've got a few players who would run through a brick wall for their team and Clarkey is one of that ilk.If he had scored that one on one he would've raised the roof because the roots hall faithfull recognise a guy who gives 100% when the odds stack against him.

While he gave the ball away no more than some others he was cute enough to see their defence push up so far that a run from midfield was gonna be hard to pick up.1 in 3 runs very nearly got that equalizer in the first half.

Of course he had to come off,Macca and Hoops are better than him at making those runs and so it proved. But i say, thankyou Pete for giving your all.

I think Barrett and Sodje will start saturday so its out of prior or Clarke to start on the bench - i would rather Clarke.

i agree because he is a better defender than prior and also can play midfield if needed to be substituted on

Your thread is Clarke, midfiled?

I think that should be misfiled - he's clearly in the wrong place.

Have to say I've been really disappointed with clarke.

Its not that I think hes just an average player and I expected something a little bit extra, but I actually feel he is a 'poor' player in this league.

Yes I know he's being played out of position, but actually we need the hieght and airial ability of prior at the back - clarke doesn't have that.

Hes go th heart - absolutly no question about that - but the necessary skill level - no way.

Unfortunalty, because I thought he was going tobe our best signing, hes been a complete and utter waste of money. Lets put it this way, would you pay anything more than 40k for him? - I suspect not. We've been ripped off and I think tilly has seriousley got this one wrong...as with paynter.

Still it not all doom and gloom really. Som eof the other signings are prooving to be real assets.

Hammel - lovely touch for a full back and is so dangerous at set pieces.

Francis - I know some moan about his defending, but his hieght, speed and going forward are all assets which proove to be effective.

Harrold - best signing? arguably - in a few years time I think he could be a great player

Hooper - fingers crossed, I think he could be, or rather will be a star...a big star.

...

P.S - so glad to have mac back - needed that determinationin midfield - hes prepared ot RUN forward instead of unsuccessfully play 40 yard balls (like gutts - always looked committed, but think we are beguinning to see his tru colours - I think hes mind is messed up)

Hopefully Spinner will start against Col U. In my opinion he has hardly put a foot wrong in the last 3 games and I thought Tilly only took him off as Barrett was more likely to score in a period of the game when we were well on top.

Spot on !

Clarke in midfield has been an integral part of the team conceding only 1 goal in 3 games, as opposed to the 3 goals every 1 game. It was only a couple of games ago he help us beat Man U: how quickly the fickle forget!

Of course he's playing out of position but he's been doing an effective, if not pretty, job for us. McCormack is a specialist midfielder and will hopefully be an improvement going forward whilst not losing the defensive solidity that Clarke provided. I'd play McCormack from here on, but I'd still be grateful for the job that Clarke did.

Likewise.. I'm sure he would rather be playing C.B. but he hasnt moaned about it, been glad to get on the pitch and has tried his best, even with the crowd moaning he still looked unhappy to be taken off..

Dont see Clarke getting a look in now.

McCormack will play in the middle.

I reckon Prior and Sodje will start vs Col U with Barrett the 3rd man.

We have only conceded once with Prior and Sodje so it would be unfair to drop Spinner now.

Ive been really disappointed in Clarke where ever he has played. At center back he has made several individual mistakes that have cost us goals which you cant do at any level of football and you cant have him in midfield cause he is hopeless on the ball. You could say he bolsters the midfield but he also has also broke up our own attacks with his appalling control and passing ability. Simply not good enough for me! Bad signing
