Junior Blues News Christmas Party

Well, we had 6 children and 3 players not turn up, but 48 children and 7 players did - and had a great time at the bowling yesterday afternoon. Fortunately, they weren't aware of the many arguments we had with the bowling alley before and during the event which has meant we will not consider them as a venue in the future.

We were blessed with a visit from serial fundraiser, Lee Clark, as the Grinch, who greeted all the children on arrival - Lee's aim is to raise £1,000,000 in his lifetime, and his Grinch is available for doorstep visits and bookings (his Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/groups/1069768740849061).

Thank you to Rylee, my Kev, @Tinks , Wendy and Matt and Kelly Bolton for their help, and to Jack Bridge, Oli Coker, Cav Miley, Noor Husin, Jack Wood, Keenan Appiah-Forson and George Wind for giving up their time and making sure the children had a memorable afternoon.

I'm waiting for the official photos to come through, but in the meantime, here is a taster, please feel free to add any of your own:

Well done all involved and given up time for what must sometimes seems “ Why do i bother “
Please don’t let the moaners win, the kids wouldn’t have noticed and you have made memories for them especially at school, when they tell friends they got to met their heroes in real time not a looking at a distance team on Sky TV x
I understand the frustration if your child/ grandchild misses out on, I’ve had this many times in life, but kids forget it’s more the adults feeling the disappointment for them
Unfortunately the growth of JB is a strong testament to all you do and hopefully COSU will assist in venues and maybe a small donation to bring tomorrows fans to the party ( If they don’t already )
Keep up the good work

Players were all excellent with the children, particularly had lots of praise from one of the Dads, whose child was with Jack Wood, couldn't speak highly enough of him. Keenan and George also, who had never been to one before, threw themselves in with gusto. Noor, Cav, Jack B and Oli now all old hands of course, and well experienced!

Well done to everyone involved. I hope everyone had a great time. Well done OBL and helpers, and just a mention for Lee Clark. An absolute hero. It's well documented, Lee has his own struggles, and yet he still finds the time and effort in raising money for various charities. Some will know Lee from when he worked at the Tesco petrol station Southchurch Road. He can talk for England. So he used to man the tills without talking for a month or so for charity. For him, that was very hard, as he would even talk to himself going about the store. Not during the challenge of course. But that's just one challenge in multiple ways of raising money. if anyone can raise a £Million in their lifetime for charity, it's Lee. He's relentless, and best of luck to him, and to his good health in the future.

I'm not going to say which players didn't turn up, one we knew wasn't coming but he was supposed to have arranged for someone else to come instead, so don't know if it was his fault, or the person we were expecting in his place. The other two both had their children suddenly fall ill at home and couldn't get away from them (partners working etc etc). These things do happen, of course, but it is the first time in a long time that it has.

@THE SEVENTIES NORTH BANK is quite right about Lee. He is an amazing bloke, determined to reach his goal of raising £1,000,000 for charity by 2041. He's already climbed Kilimanjaro, and done the 3 Peaks, his next challenge is husky sledging across a snowy country next March, and had been sleeping out at the Tesco/Esso on Southchurch Road (where he still works) for 28 hours to raise money (unfortunately had to cancel due to the weather). He'll be doing his annual sponsored silence at work again come January, he also runs and plays in the Farke Knights charity football team, and is an all round nice guy.
