chris powell

plays for leicester!! i didnt know this... anyone know how long hes been there for?

be nice to see him back at Roots Hall again during the season!

He signed for them a week or two before the season started on a six month contract but that looks likely to be extended after a strong start to the season for both him and the Foxes.

I'm really looking forward to him playing down here. Very probably my favourite Southend player of all time.

Edited for accuracy. And seconded!

:)

In fact, I was wearing my Chrissy Powell T-shirt only yesterday...

:)

Its been a while since you aired ''that'' photo Mi Lord.

Perhaps you could post it on here now after all it is a thread dedicated to Chrissy Powell.

I aim to please, Stats...

Sounds like chrisie is having a good game (listening on blues world) and they got their biggest crowd at their new stadium so far the commentators said 5100 and summat

So many mentions of the legend that is CP - I have involuntarily fallen to my knees and clasped my hands together in prayer, thanking God for bringing Chris Powell to Earth, and Roots Hall in particular.

Unfortunately, the legend commonly known as ooh,Chrissy Pow-ell will have to experience the sledging that is reserved for ALL ex-shrimpers on their return to the 'Hall simply because they are now plying their trade for the opposition.

I must detach myself from the great memories and inform him from the stands for 90mins that he was **** back then and still is!! After all, can't have these players having the game of their season against Southend can we?

Of course, when Sir Powell trudges off after defeat i shall clap and bow politely as is the sporting norm when acknowledging a legend.

Right or wrong?

I'm sorry, I think you're wrong.

The ex-players who get a sledging on their return to Roots Hall are the ones who didn't do too much for us when they played for us, or the ones who left under controversial circumstances, such as Leon Constantine or Nicky Bailey.

I will never forget the reception Sir Chris got back in February 1996 when he returned to the Hall just a few weeks after leaving us to go to Derby. He was warming up with the rest of the Derby squad and as he ran towards the West Stand, absolutely everyone in the stand stood up and applauded the great man. It was a very impressive moment and I have no reason to believe that he won't be welcomed warmly when he comes down with Leicester.

The man is one of the all-time Southend greats and anyone who was around to see him play will have nothing but the utmost respect for him.

OK,Southampton,i will change my ways and make an exception.
I was around watching Powell at the time and certainly did recognise his undoubted talent back then and of course,he was one of my faves.

I've just got a problem with cheering opposition players i guess.

Absolutely right. He's a legend, but for ninety minutes he will be the enemy.

What you're forgetting is what he actually did when we reached the West Stand. He handed his old Southend shirt to a young girl in there. Apparently she had been writing to him on a regular basis during his time at Southend and he had promised her his shirt at the end of the season. When he left he still found time to make sure she received it from him personally.
