Chris Kamara's Column in the Sun today

Csboy

Manager
Bit surprised this hasn't been covered on here already. Chris Kamara's column today was entirely devoted to Southend United.
It features what has gone wrong recently but the most important thing mentioned was that Steve Tilson has been told by Ron Martin that no matter what happens this season he will be encharge for next season. Kamara praises Martin for not forgetting what Tilson has done in the past.
Normally anything written in the Sun I would take as a pinch of Salt but Chris Kamara is usually pretty well informed and does seem to have spoken to Tilson recently.

Lets just hope this is the case and Tilson has been told he won't be sacked this season no matter what happens. It will also take some pressure of Tilson and help him prepare in the long term for Southend and not just look for a short term fix just to save his job.

But the question remains - Ron Martin may be backing Steve Tilson, but, has Steve Tilson committed his future by signing the extended contract that was offered

I think that's a bit unfair Mike. He drops a few bollocks when doing his live reports on Soccer Saturday, but his stuff in The Sun and on the Sky Sports website is normally pretty good.

Credit to him for realising there is football outside of the Prem'ship as well. Too many commentators think there are only 20 teams in England and that football was inbvented in 1992.

Just looked on The Sun website and couldn't find it. Bugger.

spot on

if RM has backed tilly like that.. that's awful..

surely, he has no pressure on him? It means that he is in a win win situation.. i cannot believe it, that RM would say that, surely it just makes Tilly to comfortable..

So does this mean Tilly has got the dreaded vote of confidence from Ron?...

He'll be out by January then.

Tilly should be backed in such a way, we must not forget what he has done in the past, he learning still and should be given all the support possible, i seen too many poo managers in last decade, only a few the decade before that. But tilly cares as much as any of us, he must stay, if we go down and next season we are struggling then maybe a change needed, but i think if we go down we would have good chance of coming straight back up.

If we'd finished midtable last season and again this season in League 1 people would be saying that we'd done a great job of consolidating after our first promotion. There's no way that so much as a passing thought should be given to sacking Tilly, and I suspect that those suggesting otherwise account for many of the extra fans who've sprung up over the past couple of years. Nobody who appreciates where we were when the man took over could seriously suggest that he's anything other than a great manager.

Not true - Its just a matter of opinion. personnally if he is to stay he should have some one in to help him. I also think the reason why some people are saying sack tilson is because they want us to stay in the league and so far Tilson hasn't proven himself at this level. Its all fine and well saying well Tilson got us here - but If we was to go back down to league 2 would you still be saying Tilson got us here? - Tilson Should stay but with someone helping him - his still very raw when it comes to management.

I stand by my point that for us to be in League 1 three years into Tilly's stint is more than acceptable - we had no right to expect promotion from League 2 given the shape we were in when he took over.

Before Tilson was here we appointed manager after magager, with the result that none of them had a prolonged spell in which to build the team they wanted and none of them succeeded. Our current manager has been a success and now people are doubting his abilities just because he can't keep a club with so many players who were recently playing in League 2, and in many cases in the non-leagues, in the second tier of English football. If you'd told me at the start of the season that people would be calling for Tilly's head before Christmas I'd have laughed - I'm embarassed to hear some of our fans turning so quickly on a man who has done so much for us.

Well, depends on what sort of person Tilly is. Some people need the pressure of failure to spur them on, others need security in order to function properly.

Why not focus on staying in the Championship before accepting consecutive relegations?

Is there not some form of grammar test that can be introduced before being allowed to post?

The reason its not on the Sun website today is because it was in yesterdays paper - Thusdays Sun!!

You keep saying this, but you never follow it up by citing a single example in footballing history when bringing someone in above the manager hasn't been a complete disaster.

Don't they archive any of their stories, like most papers websites?
