Chesterfield are back in the FA cup

Droylsden expelled from FA Cup
Sean Newton scores a goal for Droylsden
Newton picked up his fifth booking of the season on 9 December

Droylsden have been thrown out of the FA Cup after they were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player in their second-round win over Chesterfield.

Sean Newton scored both goals as the non-league club stunned their League Two opponents in a 2-1 win.

But Chesterfield asked the Football Association to intervene when they discovered Newton should have been serving a one-match ban on 23 December.

Chesterfield will now face Ipswich in their third round tie on 3 January.

Bit of a schoolboy error there. I feel a bit sorry for Droylsden but it's happened a few times recently and part-time or not their secretary should really have checked the suspension list thoroughly.

I love a co-incidence.

Bury were thrown out the Cup a couple of seasons ago for the same reason. Chester benefited then and went onto to play Ipswich in the following round. Much like Chesterfield will.
