A quote on the game from the official Chester Web Site describing Dudders' goal:-

After a solid and much improved performance from Chester, and just when it looked like they would get something out of the game, Southend took the lead in the 88th minute with a tapped in goal from substitute Lawrie Dudfield from a few yards out. The ball came in from the right, took a deflection off a Chester player and landed kindly for him, giving him the easiest of finishes.

Poor Dudders. I wouldn't call controlling a ball that came down from about 30ft in a swirling wind and finding the corner of the net a "tap in".

Well if that was an improved performance from Chester then i'd hate to have seen their last couple of games, definatly one of the worst teams to have visited the hall this season.

The big lump up front for them just didn't have a clue, and if thats what Rush has got to work with then he must be pulling his hair out.....awful !!

If you think that's funnny, try the first sentence in the same report:-

This was a much improved Chester performance tonight, with the hoofball style of play dropped for tonight's game, and hopefully for good.

one way of describing it I suppose!

I personally would have put 'ex-Shrimper and complete tool Harris shinned it straight up in the air'

...before Dudfield showed great composure to take the ball down and finish emphatically from 12 yards

Saw it on Football League Review and it was most definitely not a tap in.

saw it live in the flesh and it definitely wasn't a tap in!

I would have described it as Leeboy-esque.

Yeah, me too, but it's difficult to be sure of impartiality when you've been frustrated by a negative footballing side for 88 previous minutes prior to the goal.

You must have known I was there. Didn't you notice how off his game Eastwood was?

I guess you need to have a slightly warped sense of reality to support Chester.

As for Dudders goal, saw it on tv yesterday. Not a particularly eye catching goal but technically you won't see a better goal all season - his control of a ball dropping from c30,000 feet with two defenders closing in on him had to be spot in order to get the shot away, and it was.
