* who the feck are these people? Judging from their ages on the CCFC Official Site I can only guess at them being Youth at some time.
Unless CCFC are trying to 'raise their stock' by claiming they once wore the Blue of SUFC?

Or indeed Adrian, our very own Clarets fan and SZ regular...
Hey Matt, I'm still about.....

Looking at the pen pics, it looks to me like Haswell's one says Southend in error, I have a feeling Halle was at Southend as a youngster, dunno about Sobers (I'll take Napsters word for it

). I would tend to agree Leeboy is right in that they were youth teamers.

Having said that, precisely none of those guys are with us now the King revolution has steamed in, although it's a shame we lost Haswell (he was a class act last season).

On other ex-shrimpers, there were rumours about Gary Cross and even Tes Bramble coming back but neither happenned.

Chris does have his hands full trying to keep the site up to date too, so errors are bound to appear, although he can only add what he's given....

And before anyone asks, I wasn't there on Saturday, prior booking.....hope you enjoyed the game and our modest facilities. Sorry about the running track but it was either that or continued exile (or nothing)

nice tidy little ground Adrian

but something should be done about the railings behind the goal - Ricketts got tackled, rolled off the pitch and went head first into them. Maybe some sort of foam padding?

Interesting point Leeboy. I'm assuming you mean the fixed railings infront of the ro-ro terracing.

I'm sure someone would say they are within HSE limits or something, and that at a lot of non-league grounds you'll find the fencing often very close to the pitch, but I take your point. I've witnessed a few nasty injuries from collisions with fencing, including one at New Lodge, but none yet at Melbourne.

It has been remarked that the fencing is very close, especially to the goals. If you stand right behind them you're just as likely to get a ball in the face as standing further along because the netting is right up to the fence.

We are restricted on space behind the goals because of the athletics, like the Hammer net and the run up for the javelin. I think the terracing is squeezed into the only available space, hence the fencing is closer to the pitch than it might have been.

It looked ridiculously dangerous to me and I can't believe it complies to safety rules and regs. Presumably it was designed by someone who had never played the game as the tackle that put Ricketts onto the fence face first was strong but pretty routine. I hope you don't lose anyone this season because of this, or worse still get sued by another club....

Enjoyed the day though and the facilities weren't bad at all. Chelmsford seemed like a friendly, well-organised club and I hope they do well this season.

Believe me, I understand your concern, but it must comply otherwise the ground would never have got it's safety cert, and I know a lot of work went into getting the ro-ro terracing to start with.

Thanks for the kind comments though, I hope the Shrimpers do likewise and enjoy life back in the second tier of football.

Well we do our best Leeboy......

I agree with Leeboy, I've been to a fair few non-league grounds and City have got the best Clubhouse I've seen (though Billericay runs it close). The queue at the bar was never short of horrendous, though.

Interesting to see most of the old Canvey side on Saturday - there's not much about transfers on City's site so have they actually signed all these players or are they just on trial with a view to a deal? I was particluarly surprised to see Battersby - wasn't he at Grays last term?

I would expect Chelmsford to be playing in Conference South in 2007/08 season then into the Conference by 2008/09 then League 2 in 2010/11 season! With the fans, the manager & the players they got, the days of Chelmsford bobbing in mid-table of non-league football is over.

They have loads of time to bring this ground up to League standard, they could move to their own ground or build an new stand at Melbourne Park.

How do the athletic club feel about Melbourne park being taken over by the Football club ?
Nationally I would say they are of an equal standard to the football club and without them that melbourne park arena would not be fit for kids footy let alone semi-pro
I know when Southend manor went into senior football they "took over" southchurch park when the thletics club were of a considerably higher comparable standard. Fortunately the Garons development was finished about 5 years later (although local chavs have now rendered it unsafe for competition)

I hear that Hezbollah have been using it as their training ground for the last five years.

Well there were a few loud objections from a small number of people to start with but in essence the club (and the council) have worked hard to forge a good relationship with the athletics club, and it's working. We were able to leave most of the terracing up last season, provided some was occasionally taken down when required. I wouldn't say we're taking over, we're effectively using the opposite side to the Athletics buildings and it's all council owned anyway.

We have to be flexible to be there at all, and in essence we come 2nd in terms of athletics meetings vs football matches (it is far easier for us to re-arrange anyway). In other ways, our development of the ground has only helped the Athletics Club because they can use the new main stand and there is talk of the redevelopment of the opposite side (which we would need if we're successful with promotions) to accommodate more people.

At the moment it's working well. If we are successful in the next couple of seasons and crowds go up it might get interesting.....
