Ceephax Acid Crew

Andy Jenkinson, AKA Ceephax Acid Crew, has been releasing electronic records from his home in Chelmsford since the 90's. The younger brother of Chelmsford's more famous electronic artist, Squarepusher, Ceephax has maintained a strong DIY ethic which shows in literally everything he does.

Take for example his brilliant website:
http://www.ceephax.co.uk/
Order anything, and it ships direct from him. He'll upload free music, copy and sell cassettes and provides interesting sections on random stuff like his favourite jumpers, seats and carpets:

He also does all his artwork and makes his fantastic videos. All of his output is true to Essex, using local settings and references to local culture (Track names like Arterial Acid Part 1, Essex Rubicon, Ramsden Health, Baddow Life, Acid on Sea).

I'd argue that there isn't a local Essex artist who hasn't stayed more local to their scene than Ceephax. Most peers, including Squarepusher have migrated to London but Andy still represents the local rave and electronic culture of the nineties.

Also, his music is absolutely great (although I appreciate probably not for everyone). His videos are outstanding and live he is a monster - no computers or recordings, all completely live with drum machines, sequencers and synths.

More to come... off to a meeting....
