Cedar Tree Chalkwell Park

Sentinel

Schoolboy
I'm sure we've all seen what happened in Chalkwell Park yesterday afternoon. An absolute tragedy, a 7 year old girl dead and a 6 year old fighting for her life. Hats off to Westcliff CC and Leigh CC who abandoned their matches and apparently there were 50+ men trying to lift the fallen tree off the girls bodies. I used to live 3 minutes walk from Chalkwell Park and I loved it. Like all the parks in the town they are a shining gem, a place to be proud of. What I can't cope with is the fact that I walked under that tree hundreds if not thousands of times. RIP to the fallen, hopes and prayers for the 6 year old.

A picture of the tree from an amazing Facebook page I didn't know existed until a few hours ago called Southend Street Trees.

Southend Street Trees

Yes, a really sad story - and, like you, I've walked under that tree many times. A lot of adults went to try and help from what I've read, just an instinctive reaction to something bad, trying to save children's lives.

The poor families affected directly and also indirectly, because the trauma of what they heard and saw will stay with them for some time.

God bless the little girl who died and prayers for the other girl's recovery.
