A somewhat shorter ref watch (for a somewhat shorter referee).
Man in charge on Saturday is 29-year old, Geoff Eltringham from Sunderland. This is his first Southend game .... indeed it is his first League One game. In his first season, this will be his eigth game as a League referee having done 6 League Two games and a JPT game between two League Two sides. So status wise, this match witll be the pinacle of his career to date.
The other games seem to have gone okay. He hasn't had a cardless match yet but conversely he has not shown more than 2 yellows in any match. Seven matches producing just 12 yellows and a solitary red.
He is an ex-Sunderland season ticket holder and works in the timber trade.
Assisting will be Paul Curry from Northumberland and Seb Stockbridge from Gateshead with Mike Rowley from Berkshire (!) on 4th official duty.
