Can't believe this exodus is continuing

Hmm, the only time I've ever used a Post icon should have givent his post away for the fraud it is. Clearly we all have too much spare thought capacity with the absence of any Southend football to tallk about or any real transfer activity or justified speculation to deal with.

As a result, I thought I would post these links to help people through the quiet patch.

Mrs Tolstoy was like that. He only wrote "War and Peace" to get out of doing the washing up...

The cunning sod! I can see it now, though, the book is clearly a subtle allegory of Domestic Strife Writ Large.

Now if I can persuade her that I am an Internet Freecell Champion engaged in an International Tournament, do you think she would let me off the ironing?

Probably depends on your stats. As a veteran freecell player whose hand was forced by exams in to the murky world of clicking on cards, I would still suggest that unless you are ironing the clothes of an ocotopus, the ironing may well be the best choice.

I really hope this topic works because I can't seem to stop coming on here each day to check for any breaking news and yet find myself thoroughly unsatiated by the content of half the threads.

Something Southend related though: Did we even score a single direct free kick last season? Can't remember any off hand but then I hardly saw any games really. I can only really think of Gower's at Chester from the season before.

Very good.

Just been looking for stats on it and we have indeed scored two direct free-kicks. I think I really need the season DVD as soon as possible!

For a bonus point, who scored the only direct freekick against us? (and I actually know the answer to this one)

I love stats.

This season we have been awarded 6 penalties and yet we have conceded just one penalty all season!

For a further 'one stat', we've only conceded one goal in the first fifteen minutes of a game all season.

(Think these are all league stats by the way)

The direct free kick was Jevons at home. The penalty was at home to MK Dons after Prior handballed, but was subsequently missed.

As for our penalties, Wayne Gray is surely the finest penalty taker the club has seen? I'm not sure if this is right, but I think the last person to miss was Jay Smith against Northampton, which was Calderwood's first game as Northampton manager and one of Wignall's last (if not the last)

I'm afraid someone's actually tucked a pen away against us too. Don't know who.

I agree about Gray, something that frequently gets overlooked. If I remember right, we were awarded pen after pen in Wignall's time but just couldn't put them away!

That was in the FA cup, wasn't it?

Hartlepool away - last minute. Flavs saved a penalty and we won 2-1.

Correct. My source still tells me that we conceded a goal from a penalty this season though.

Deon Burton for Rotherham scored a penalty against us at Millmoor.

MK Dons missed one in the league game (can't remember who, it went wide) but Mcleod scored one in the cup against us.

no he didn't. McLeod skinned Prior at the byline and the second was scored by Gary Smith after Gower gave the ball away.

I'm pretty sure Mcleod skinned Prior and then was subsequently fouled and scored the resulting pen. I remember him putting his 'finger to mouth' at the South Stand end when celebrating and getting a rightly deserved barrage! Eastwood then equalised and, as you say, Smith scored the winner.

In the league game, Pablo Mills missed a penalty at the North Bank end after about 10 minutes; finished nil-nil.
