c2c trialling onboard WiFi

Bob Cratchitt

Devil's Advocate
It appears that c2c are now running a trial of WiFi access on a 4 carriage unit. The train will be shifted during the timetable so to allow as many people a chance to use it, the carriages which have been Wifi'd will have Hotspot stickers on its doors to indicate that access is available in this carriage.

Whilst it is in trial the access will be free to use, however once the trial has been completed and if it proves successful there will be a charge to use this service.

Had it on my line for three years now and its a winner with the commuters by all accounts.

C2C is the future.

Internet, Air Con, window etching, feral youths.

Great. So to add to listening to 'PERSONAL' mp3 players, People talking loudly enough to make them selves heard by the driver and ******** kids going through every ringtone on their phone, I can enjoy the clickity click of people E mailing spread sheets on paper clip costings..

Hence why I avoid trains like I do Matt Harrold's Shooting.

Well what a coincidence here i am on the 8.00pm from Fenchurch St just approaching West Ham using this trial.

So far so good.

For SARF I guess you should invest in some ear plugs or better buy your own mp3 to drown out others. Also I would like to know what Laptops you buy that the keyboard is that loud enough to disrupt on a commuter train. :p

Another gimmic by C2C that wont last 5 minutes.
What happened to all the TV Screens that were installed a few years back and then disappeared just as quick? Or were they stolen like the old luggage racks were and then found on sale at boot sales as portable barbeque racks?

Another gimmic they tried was a timetable:hilarious: :hilarious: :hilarious: calendar morelike!!!

The TV screens were removed from the trial carriages after passengers spoke up about not wanting such intrusions, as the plan was not to have any quiet carriages and everyone being forced to listen to what is being shown.

I do not how you can say WiFi hotspots are gimmicks but I guess it helps you have a point to post.

Actually Yesterday I had the pleasure of using a 'One' train, and despite being older it was a more pleasent journey, as the thing rattles so much, combining with wind noise to drown out the rest of the travelling public.. C2C trains have become TOO quiet!

The very fact that you have just described your journey on 'one' as a "pleasant journey" tells me that you clearly have never been on the receiving end of one of their delays (which is generally 3 times a week). The trains are older than Jimmy Saville and I swear most of the staff are recruited from the local mental institute (this is going on looks as well as skills - or lack of), they can neither speak English or give any valid information.
But if you are unfortunate to suffer a delay then luckily you can claim for the delay, you will get a voucher towards your next ticket, I once suffered a 3 hour delay on the hottest day of the year on a Friday night and I received a £3 voucher - joy.

i thought it was because the company that installed the TV's and were to provide the service went bust??

anyhow, TV's and Wifi are completely different... Wifi is popping up all over the place (Mcdonalds even) and is on Virgin trains etc, so its good to see C2C keeping up.

I might have to start using Wifi on my psp, as im still waiting for Shags to buy PES 6 so i can trounce him!

They started introducing WiFi on the First Great Western trains a couple of years ago. Thing is, I only saw those carriages the once, on my way to Reading and even then, more people were sitting in the non WiFi carriages.

There are a few pubs in Cheltenham that have introduced WiFi. I can't see many people taking their laptops in there though, as a) spill a pint on it and your buggered and b) how long will you have your laptop with you until it gets stolen or drunkenly left in there?

A 'One' train.. Not a One journey.. Its driver must have got lost and wandered onto the C2C line.. where he was amazed the signalling system let him take his late 80's beast above 60 mph for the first time in decades..

Ha ok then - well TBF, the trains and the journeys go hand in hand in my book, they are both as bad as each other. I went on a C2C line last week (becuase my line was delayed) and think the trains are so much nicer and the air con is a god send in the summer. The trains are def 80's beasts, if not older....

Why the need for WiFi? What's wrong with Sodoku or a good old fashioned sleep leaning to one side until you almost fall off the seat?
