Great start to the morning. A signal cable has been stolen at southend meaning a very limited service on C2C at the moment. Tickets are being accepted on one. Check before you travel! Unlike me :-(

Loads of cancellations however the 7:15 @Benfleet was not cancelled. A bit crowded but no real problems getting to work.

I heard that there were problems so went on the Rayleigh line, thanks to a very nice person giving me a lift there! :)

I got a text from c2c informing me of the problems, I would recommend people signing upto this service, and it is free. Although the text just said cancellation due to Vandalism.

It is about time that Railtrack replace the signal copper cabling with fibre, plastic/glass does not have such a great re-sell value.

I think they need to sort out the security on the lines more than anything. All those delays they had a few weeks ago causing chaos for 24 hours, that was due to vandalism on the cabling boxes, and when the wind picked up it caused complete power failure.

C2C said they would send me £20 refund for all the delays I suffered. If any of you got stuck in that I reccommend sending a brief email to their customer services, and they will refund you money too.

Oh lol, very funny.

That would cost absolutely billions - I'd hate to think how many thousands of miles of just signalling cable there is - not to mention the power cables which HAVE to be copper and the track side cabinet where the doors are being robbed.

It's endemic and absolutely impossible to police. We spent £30K just replacing stainless steel doors that kept the elements away from some high spec signalling kit - they'll be nicked again before the month is out.

And it's usually an inside job rather than "our friends" the travellers.

It's impossible Sarah - a lot of access gates are in the middle of nowhere. The locks are easily cut off with bolt croppers, and no one says a word if they're wearing a High Vis orange vest. Besides, people have be physically threatened - and I'm not going to get the crap kicked out of me for this sh1tty job.

Why is that so funny, I have been informed they have done this in India, so why not start on the lines that are the most blighted. Surely it makes sense then keep replacing the copper which would end up costing a fair bit.

I guess one way to help fund this would be to ensure the staff they employ actually work a full day for a full days pay. :finger:

Oy! I work hard during my 35 hour week....! I do at least 3.5 hrs work (at a push).

In India I would have thought they might have done it in the major cities, but out in the middle of nowhere with one train a day, I doubt it!

Besides as I've said, power cable is getting nicked. The thiefs are gemmed up to know that earth cable and bonding carries no current during normal running, so that gets nicked and HAS to be replaced or there could be a big bang....

Of course Davros here is the link The Alert Linky

As always I have tried to help people out before.

I only get a txt if there is a problem in the mornings, whereas every evening I get an email telling me what the current situation is, regardless of issues.

Dear Andee,

There are no disruptions reported at this time affecting services between your selected stations, London Fenchurch Street to Southend East.

There is a premium service available at £10 per month.

If you are coming home drunk you can text C2C and a courier will meet you at the station with a large doner and will have your suit dry cleaned if you have been sick on it.

Our train driver said that an inspection cover by the track at southend had been removed and the Fribreoptic cable (an inch thick according to the Driver) had been cut taking down all the signals between Southend and Shoebury.
He said that it was next to a very High voltage cable and if they had cut that one we would have fried vandals

An inch thick of fibre optic  Jeez what sort of bandwidth does the signalling system need??
