Generally, plasma are best 42" and above. LCD good up to 40".

This is general though.

Panasonic make good plasmas. Samsung are ok aswell....if you like cleaning the shiny black surround I hear.

Sony are good but arent the cheapest.

Quick guide perhaps:

Its got Suzy Perry on it aswell so if you dont like the tvs atleast theres something else to look at!

Well I purchased a Samsung plasma (42") last year and it has been absolutley fine the picture quality has been excellent and I cannot find fault with it. Go with whatever you like. Oh and NEVER pay the asking price if you know how to negoiate any of the shops will give you a discount if you ask

we've got a 37inch plasma panasonic viera. it's the absolute boll*cks!!

I got a Plasma about 5 yrs ago nd people said you have to keep filling up the gas blah blah blha.
It still works fine,its LG42"

If you just want a great big picture without being too worried about quality, get a projector and screen + surround sound. Got a 2m elecric screen and all the other bits for less than a grand.

Picture quality not really brilliant but great for sport, films and gaming with the sound right up.

If you're not worried about having a big name brand then I can highly recommend this set. Mine was delivered on Wednesday - the picture is fantastic, it's got plenty of inputs and it costs under half of what you would generally expect to pay for something of comparable quality. Check out the customer reviews on the site.

I got a Sony 26" LCD (KDL26s020 with the Bravia engine) at Xmas. Purchased from Waitrose in Southend - Pricematched against PRC Direct (www.prcdirect.co.uk) in Romford , dropped from £795 to £635 plus John Lewis TV's have a 5 yr warranty as standard.

Very, very happy

Thanks all got a few things to look at b4 my purchase your comments have been well received WATCH THIS SPACE

DO NOT BUY A PANASONIC LCD
Mine is coming up for 3 years old & is totally shagged with all manner of burn (I was told this only happened to Plasmas)!!!

Gutted, I thought Samsungs were OK & was seriously looking at a sale £500 TV to replace my dodgy Viera!

We've been using a Panasonic PW7 panel (plasma) for about 3-4 years and it still gives a fantastic picture even though it's only standard definition, if I were to buy a new TV now though I'd go for the Pioneer PDP4280XD -->

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Pioneer-PDP4280XD/

A bit pricey but apart from the 50 inch version its arguably the best TV (lcd included) that you can get right now for a reasonable price..
