Buy paul benson

He grew up watching Southend in the West Stand. He LOVES this club, he is a true Shrimper, totally one of us, and he is now a proven League goal scorer, banging in goals for Dagenham & Redbridge for 2 season in a row now...

He will shoot us into the play-offs!!

Come on Tilly. Come on Ron!!

Is 0.41 goals a game spanning the Conference and two seasons in League Two prolific enough for a striker for a League One side pushing for the Championship?

I'd be inclined to say it isn't.

Not been overly impressed when I've seen him, prefer Ben Strevens. (Sure I've said that before......)

Having watched Daggers v Exeter on Tuesday there was not anyone on view who i thought would improve our side with the exception of the new loanee at Exeter Troy ??????(double barrelled surname !!).

Benson was not playing but the standard was not upto much and i would expect that we would beat both teams........which shows how far we have come in the last 4 years considering we were 3rd from bottom

He is not the answer. Tilly had him on trial a few years ago and didnt fancy him. why do people think that just because you score in league two they are the answer. look at harrold, couldnt do it here but scores in league two. we need someone of experience with a proven record. Col U have vernon and platt. although entirely prolific they are big srong forwards who hold the ball up and can score mayb 10 a season. we have had paynter, harrold and revell, not even ten between them.

To be fair to Paul we had him on trial in a season were we got promoted at the end & he was still at White Ensign at the time. He scored several goals for the reserves & Tilly obviously did rate him to a degree as he invited him back for pre-season training at the start of the following one, so had we not been promoted who knows whether he would have decided to take a punt on him then. At the time Daggers offered him full time terms so for paul I suspect that was a no brainer. Trial or terms?

He scores goals for fun, always has done even before we let him go as about a 14yo from our yoof set up. But given what we have a striker really isn't our priority IMO.

Once again, the 0.41 goals per game statistic suggests "scores goals for fun" is a mere mis-truth.

I say again he socres for fun in league two. how many league one sides have strikers who socred bag loads in league two and have been a success. yes, maclean and makail smith have but they are in a very attacking team who create. we are not that kind of team at present. barney has worked his nuts off recently and been given very little service. we need, at least two new wide players and a centre midfield player who cvan create chances see a pass etc.

Our problem is creativity to create goal scoring chances. We need a winger that can beat a man and cross the ball, neither have we replaced the creative edge that Bailey and Gower gave us. That is where the problem lies. Macca, Moooose, JFC and Grant are all defensive midfielders and Betsy can't beat a man for toffee . Barny scored more goals last season because he was playing in a team with Bailey and Gower, he is a poacher not a creater nor a person who scores goals from long distance.... Just because you are not scoring goals, dont fall into the trap of blaming the forwards/strikers, they need service.

Heard in the week someone was looking at him - I *think* it was Northampton, but may have been a CCC side (Plymouth or Blackpool rings a bell)...

Anyway, think we had our chance and passed.

He had a broken leg for quite a while, does your figures go on games actually played or games in a season ?

I noticed the other nite that Luke Rogers played for Yeovil and played very well. He was with no club until Yeovil took him. Although small is proven at this level and certainly over the years has been excellant against us. The point is that talks of benson and morrison etc is fine, but there are players out there who could do a job. at the mo we need experience an old head type player, yes, freedman is that type of player but will probably not be fully fit again this season.

The 0.41 stat is a little misleading though. After coming up however many levels, his first season in the Conference was always going to be a bedding in one, hence he scored 2 goals. The following season he scored 28. His 3rd season though was affected by injuries and he only made 26 appearances, many from the bench, yet he still scored 9 goals. He's already got 16 goals this season as well. 55 goals in a 128 games isn't bad in my book!

Huddersfield are bidding for anyone and everyone at the moment I believe and they're rumoured to be interested. There was a rumour that they had bid £150,000 but Dagenham have laughed that off and said they haven't, whilst that also it wouldn't have a chance of getting him. I'd say they'd want a fair bit for him.

he played for me on a sunday about 5 years ago, came on at half time scored all 4 goals, then the other team realised he was a ringer, reported us to the FA lost the points, got fined, and fianlly the club folded, what a player though
