What's that buzzing noise?
Its the sound of reserve keeper, 19 year old Ritchie Brannagan, still on a massive high after keeping a clean sheet on his league debut.
This was a game of two halves in many ways. The first half was all Bury. We had three glorious goalscoring chances - a penalty which Ryan Lowe took and the excellent Glen Morris saved, then Lowe had a piledriver from the edge of the box which Morris somehow tipped away. Finally Joe Skarz got his eyebrows on the end of a Schumacher free kick and the ball was in the back of the net. One nil.
The second half was much more even, and this was mainly due to an injury to Cameron Belford who is this evening in Fairfield Hospital having x-rays. It looked like he had taken an elbow from a Southend forward but the player wasn't penalised so it may have been an accident. Either way, a very wobbly Belford was taken off and replaced with a very nervous looking Brannagan. For his first touch, he spilled the ball but it was quickly tidied up by Skarz, but after that he had some great touches and visibly grew with confidence with every touch. One thing's for sure. He's a better kepper tonight than he was this morning.
Clearly the tactics changed with the goalkeeping situation, and the players looked both nervous and determined to protect the keeper. There was some very desperate defending towards the end.
When the final whistle went, Brannagan looked like he'd just won the world cup and everyone in Bury colours got a big hug. He also got a deserved standing ovation from the home fans as the team left the field.
All in all, its three points which leaves us third. I went on my bike again so arrived home tired, muddy and jubilant. As if my day couldn't get any better, we had fajitas for tea and the wife bought some new pillows whilst she was out. Good times indeed.
Good to see you doing your bit again Scott. Same again next week as always. Kind of makes a mockery of Sturrocks comments about the players performing better away due to the negative atmosphere at RH. We have a better record at home now as it stands! Lets give them the '12th man' treatment next Sat though and pray it helps. We're gonna need it with Mr Le Fondre in town...
Like TrueBlue said wish more would get involved in singing at away games and at home certainly makes a difference. Also one thing that really annoys me, i know some people like to sit apart from others but when we at some grounds with a small away following from us we should group together in one section instead of all spreading apart in a 3000 seater stand would make the atmosphere better and also look better.
maybe people sit where they want?
I thought the atmosphere was good yesterday, unfortunately it was one of those games where there was very little to sing and shout about... not for the lack of trying on TBV's part anyway.
