BT half-term reports

President
Pettefershire CCC - Div VI.145

so, having predicted a lower mid-table finish, I'm rather happy to find myself sitting 2nd halfway through my first season- Whitewash (the team above me) are clearly a class above everyone else in the league, but I've beat the 3rd and 4th place teams quite comfortably, despite them being better on paper. Have got myself a settled batting order, and (having finally worked out the right orders for my seamers) the bowling is improving too. trainees are doing ok, Cairns (my trainee spinner) should be prof/prof by the season's end, and 2 of the batsmen have already made it into my 1st XI.

The main question now, i think, is whether i really want to promote 1st time round? on paper I'm probably very mid-table for VI (my highest BTR is 6200), and i have a feeling i'd get whopped in V. Might be better to sit out another season in VI + build the team/finances up?

It would probably be in your interest to stay in VI and continue to build member numbers by winning games regularly.

So far, so good for SZ. 7 from 7 in the league after Friday's squeak and a nice long cup run that swelled the coffers. Training is going as planned, bank balance looks healthy and we're looking pretty well set for an assault on III next season. All I need to address now is the SZ Cup starting with Muse on Sunday......

That's how i'm doing

We had a great cup run, but we've really struggled in the league - I think my side are in III 2 seasons early, as the past 2 seasons have been used to bump up 21-22 year olds from quality to wonderful, and so we only have 1 trainee in their teens currently.

4. Up the Irons 7 4 0 3 16 3.56

5. HSV 7 3 0 4 12 1.25
6. Rival Schools 7 2 0 5 8 -1.79

7. Southend 7 2 0 5 8 -2.21
8. Bit by Bats 7 1 0 6 4 -5.91

We need to win 2 more games, against RS and BbB to have a qualifier, which I may want to lose depending on the division. I'm pleased we've put up a fight in most games, but we're a batsman and a bowler short of being mid-table, sadly. Also, lacking a superstar is also a problem, as other teams have exceptional+ players.

Batty Shrimpers - Div IV.31

At the start of the season, I predicted a finish anywhere between 2nd and 7th, so to be 3rd at the half-way stage is very pleasing. If I win on Friday, I should finish in the top 4 thus avoiding a relegation play-off, which will be my best ever season. Also got to Round 4 of the cup for the first time, before losing narrowly to one of the better BOT teams.

On the players front, BT20 was a huge help, as it finally indictated the best bowling position for Seamus Oconnor, and he has responded with 20 league wickets at a tad over 9 runs apiece. Record signing Delroy Middleton has now overcome his PFL problems and showed his class by taking 5-48 in Fridays victory, he is also yet to be dismissed with the bat.

Tactically, I think I (alongside most of us) have improved quite a bit. Thanks to YB for some tips earlier in the season, and also to the rest of you for answering various queries. I love it when we all chew the cud over some of the things that BT throws up.

Good luck to all of you for the rest of the season.

The BTR's of your 18's suggest the future is bright for General Stars.

Having said that, Nick's 17yo is now over 17k BTR, scary stuff!

I believe he's on 6. That's what he was on at the start and knowing Nick it won't have changed. Proficient WK & Bat, Respectable Concentration.

I'm doing OK - top of the division, but a friendly against a Level V team showed my weaknesses. I still need to sort out the batting order, and work out the bowlers. I know my main two at the moment won't be my best in a few seasons.

Need to see how the players pop I guess.

as i was told at the beginning of the season, i could finish anywhere between 1-7, so im happy iwht third, considering its my first season on IV.

I will prob fionish 4th i reckon, but then again, i only lost by 25 runs to top the other week, so i dunno... got 2nd tomorrow, who i think are the best team in the league, so should be interesting..
