BT Cup - Round 6

MrB

Life President
128 teams left:

Southend (107) v Bowled Over (21)
Whos your Daddy (112) v Withington Wonderers (16)
ShrimperZone CC (116) v Rodbourne Green (12)
Southend United (125) v Bulldogs CC (3)

If someone told me these 4 would get further than GBG and Gambero I'd have laughed in their faces. Seeding show how against the odds all four of these ties are but you never know.

Bowled Over are a bot so Muse must be in with a chance if they can defend against their high class bowling attack. Withington are in YB's league but their batting doesn't look to strong, with Nick's TFL and morale he may be able to sneak it. Toddy on the other hand will be banking gate receipts and running!

Rodbourne Green (League)
Top Order: remarkable
Middle Order: proficient
Lower Order: abysmal
Seam Bowling: superb
Spin Bowling: competent
Fielding: woeful

Rodbourne Green (Cup)
Top Order: quality
Middle Order: proficient
Lower Order: abysmal
Seam Bowling: strong
Spin Bowling: strong
Fielding: woeful

Variation in bowling attack but I'd say we have the edge:

ShrimperZone CC
Top Order: proficient
Middle Order: superb
Lower Order: abysmal
Seam Bowling: remarkable
Spin Bowling: exceptional
Fielding: mediocre

Downside of course is that winning means defaulting the first SZ Cup game!

Bowled over's bowling attack is based on 1 very good LFM bowler and an even better spinner. My pitch is dusty to utilise my 2 remarkable spinners, but their guy could cause even more problems on it. Is it worth changing it? I've 2 fast bowlers, 2 spinners and a medium pacer.

We got through against a much better bowler for 7 overs, letting him get just 1 wicket, yesterday. I'm confident that, if conditions suit overhead, we will get them in (and hopefully out!) early on, as bots by default elect to bat first.

Will worthless form for all their players have a big effect? Who knows, but they seem to be doing ok this season. So, it's going to be tough, but I think we have a good chance. Would've upgraded my stadium for this match, but it'd take too long so wont bother. Will be increasing it to around 35000 in the off-season though.

I think Bowled Over were in my league as well.

Bulldogs knocked me out in the semis and quarters a couple of seasons back.

I think I may have also played Rodbourne Green as well.

Any help from SZ'ers for my game against Bulldogs?, Batting wise they only have a top order (masterful) and very good bowling (Remarkable/Elite).

The weather will be partially cloudy and windy, so what shall I do with my bowlers? I open with 2 FM bowlers.

Would it be better to bat or bowl first?

Won the toss and am batting - thought I set us to bowl! Luckily the weather conditions aren't terrible.

Got to bowl first, Hot Rod took one early but Sutherland went for 37 and they're ticking along nicely.

End of Over 17: 96-1, runrate=5.65
Sajjad 4-0-27-0
Benjamin* 42 (46 balls)
Worsley 49 (47 balls)

Last Wicket: Baldwin c. Mcconnell b. Horrigan 5 (FOW: 8/1)

Looks like a couple of remarkable batsmen in.

Well I thought I'd have a chance today but I'm actually getting rather butchered!

End of Over 21: 131-1, runrate=6.24
Mushtaq 1-0-6-0
Worsley* 73 (60 balls)
Benjamin 53 (57 balls)

Last Wicket: Baldwin c. Mcconnell b. Horrigan 5 (FOW: 8/1)

End of Over 23: 109-0, runrate=4.74
Shackell 5-0-33-0
Thay* 38 (58 balls)
Hudson 69 (80 balls)

270 please.

End of Over 35: 193-3, runrate=5.51
Sajjad 8-0-46-0
Cronin* 14 (15 balls)
Yate 0 (3 balls)

Last Wicket: Worsley b. Botham 101 (FOW: 192/3)

Couple more wickets and we might get a chaseable total to aim at.

Looks like Nick and Toddy's cup adventures will be over shortly!

Southend United v Bulldogs CC

Bulldogs CC won the toss and elected to field.
Pitch: Dusty

End of Over 7: 48-1, runrate=6.86, reqrunrate=1.53 (113-10)
Mapes 4-0-33-0
Tedstone* 21 (16 balls)
Lampard 14 (13 balls)

Last Wicket: Hatcher b. Neill 11 (FOW: 20/1)

Match 3 (1190685) 24/06/2007 Whos your Daddy v Withington Wonderers

Withington Wonderers won the toss and elected to field.
Pitch: Green

End of Over 41: 130-8, runrate=3.17
Brooker 6-1-24-2
Boffy* 1 (1 balls)
Lauren 0 (1 balls)

Last Wicket: Maynard c. John b. Brooker 58 (FOW: 130/8)

Good boy Mushy

End of Over 42: 234-4, runrate=5.57
Mushtaq 6-0-35-1
Jameson* 1 (1 balls)
Yate 27 (26 balls)

Last Wicket: Cronin b. Mushtaq 27 (FOW: 233/4)

41.6 1 Mushtaq to Jameson
Worked down to third man for a single.
41.5 W Mushtaq to Cronin
Played on! Cronin was picturing the ball running away to the long on boundary as he played that stroke, but it has taken the inside edge and so it is him heading in that direction instead.

Awesome death bowling from Mushy! Horrigan has taken the last one and we've been set a target of 259.

End of Over 46: 254-9, runrate=5.52
Mushtaq 8-0-44-4
Churms* 3 (2 balls)
Phillips 0 (1 balls)

Last Wicket: Churms c. Maymann b. Mushtaq 0 (FOW: 254/9)

45.6 . Mushtaq to Phillips
Forward defensive shot, stroked back down the pitch.
45.5 W Mushtaq to Churms
Churms has struck that a long way in the air. Maymann could sign an autograph while he waits for this one to come down. Out!
45.4 . Mushtaq to Churms
Churms slashes at it, but it goes through to the keeper.
45.3 3 Mushtaq to Churms
Short in length and on the off stump line. Churms rocks back and punches it through cover. Good fielding prevents 4, but good running gets them 3.
45.2 . Mushtaq to Churms
Fullish, straight ball, a little uncertainly drawn forward in defence, taken on the front pad and the ball balloons up in close on the off side.
45.1 W Mushtaq to Hardiker
Hardiker shuffles across his stumps to a ball of fullish length from Mushtaq. Trapped plumb in front.

End of Over 50: 254-4, runrate=5.08
Clunnie 10-0-51-1
Street* 2 (2 balls)
Davenport 58 (52 balls)

Last Wicket: Piercy b. Clunnie 2 (FOW: 245/4)

Disappointed to only make 254. Having looked at their side, their number 2 and 3 batsmen are good - the rest are fairly average. Depends on how the good batsmen do, this does. Hudson, Thay (promoted to number 2, as Piercy keeps getting 0) and Davenport all getting good fifties.

Was about to say I was happy with the start but Cunningham has gone which makes things dicey.

End of Over 9: 50-2, runrate=5.56, reqrunrate=5.10 (258-10)
Phillips 5-0-29-1
Maymann* 25 (24 balls)
Sajjad 0 (0 balls)

Last Wicket: Cunningham c. Hardiker b. Phillips 13 (FOW: 50/2)

Looks like we're relying on the usual two again!

End of Over 12: 62-3, runrate=5.17, reqrunrate=5.18 (258-10)
Hardiker 1-0-2-1
Sajjad* 1 (4 balls)
Curtis 0 (2 balls)

Last Wicket: Maymann c. Jameson b. Hardiker 36 (FOW: 62/3)

Useful knock from the skipper though, he's only strong/competent.

They seem to be up for it:

End of Over 25: 143-3, runrate=5.72, reqrunrate=4.64 (258-10)
Churms 6-0-25-0
Curtis* 36 (46 balls)
Sajjad 44 (39 balls)

Last Wicket: Maymann c. Jameson b. Hardiker 36 (FOW: 62/3)

On we go! 99no from Saj.

And that's the end of the match. ShrimperZone CC won by 6 wickets.
Rodbourne Green 258-10
ShrimperZone CC 259-4
