Brown praise

Evening Echo

The News
SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown heaped praise on his side, despite them suffering a 1-0 defeat against AFC Wimbledon at Roots Hall on Tuesday night.

Phil has unusually put on the rose coloured specs there! There were positives for sure but how does slow out of the blocks , completely outplayed for 20 minutes rate as excellent? How does 15 shots OFF target count? What about a whole series of poor passes or 30 crosses without one of ours getting on the ball. How about 15 corners and too many not getting over the first defender. What about giving away silly free kicks in dangerous positions? Is this the height of excellence Phil aims to attain?

PB needs to save words like 'excellent for games we win. There are positives from last nights game but the lads need a kick up the jacksy as much as a pat on the back.

Brown's analysis of the game was accurate. OK, we missed a hatful of chances, but on another day some of those would have gone in and we would all be saying how great things are. The performance against Stevenage was no better than last nights. I am confident that we will win at Carlisle on Saturday. We have now got pace going forward and this is ideal to hit teams on the break which is what often happens away from home.
