Britt Assombalonga keen to extend loan at Southend United from Watford

Evening Echo

The News
BRITT Assombalonga fired Southend United to a 3-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday – and then revealed he was keen to extend his loan spell at the club.

Whoever at S.U.F.C. spotted Assombalonga, well done. Extending that loan could be so crucial for our promotion chance. The guy has 4 goals in 6 games. A strike rate that would be very hard to maintain especially taking into account the away games, but he is getting better all the time, so you can see him getting over 25 for a season.
This is where the problem lies, Freddy and Corr out for god knows. They will then need games to get up to fitness, and recurring injuries possible. Harris and Benyon unlikely to get anywhere near that strike rate.

Lets hope Southend pull and all the stops and give 100% in to making the extended loan happen. It really could be the difference between promotion or not. That's how important it is, as I see it.

Very important he stays, agree, but whats all this water under bridge from PS when asked about extending Assombalongas loan period.

He says that in response to the question "He's the sort of player you would like to retain at Southend" – I took that to mean in a permanent capacity.

its very simple, if we keep him then we have a chance of reaching the play offs, without him a bit of mid table stuff for us

Most exciting striker we have had since Freddys first spell. A season long loan is a must if we are to get out this poxy division.
