'British values'

No such thing. There are English values of humility, remaining calm under pressure, courage, ingenuity and a passion to stand up for that which is right. Sadly, these values have been gradually eroded to the point of disappearance by the moral relativism of the last few decades and the canker of multiculturalism.

As for being British, I consider that to be an artificial nationality akin to being Yugoslavian. I feel no affinity for the Scots or Welsh, as I'm sure they feel none for me.

And the (Northern) Irish? :winking:

Sounds like some romantic notion from Kipling.

Englishmen and women can be as vain, as cowardly, and as stupid as any other nation on earth and always have been.

did you move away because you felt you would never fit in?

I don't disagree with you on these, but why would you say they are English values? Are they your ideal values in other English people or simply what you view yourself to be? I guess what I'm trying say is, based on what are they 'English values'? Do you feel that people from other nationalities do not share these same values?

It's used for complaining about how expensive things are:

E.g. the British value of bread is £1.02 but the Bulgarian value of bread is 37p.

I think Harold Shand sums it up rather nicely.

I said Britain. Not the United Kingdom.

On the contrary you said British.

And as David Goldblatt writes;- "As enshrined in the Good Friday Agreement, everybody in Northern Ireland has the choice as to whether they are British or Irish."
