Southend: Smith, Clohessy, Phillips, Cresswell, Barker, Hurst, Mkandawire, Laird, Timlin, Tomlin, Assombalonga.

Subs: Bentley, Straker, Eastwood, Corr, Leonard, Martin. Woodyard.

Tomlin over freddy????????????? he carries all the goal threat of a dead badger, you know the ones you see splattered on the road, proper flattened

Not two much freshening up by Mr Sturrock, with only two changes to Saturday's team. Harsh on Woodyard to be dropped, and still PS insists on playing Tomlin over Freddy. Overall on paper looks like as strong a team/bench as we have had all year

Since Freddy injured his back about a week ago you can't criticise PS for wanting to keep him on the bench, I doubt Freddy would last the full 90 at the moment, he may as well come on near the end and make more of an impact.

Woodyard dropped for someone who has hardly played a game. He was one of our in form players. Very harsh indeed Mr Sturrock.

If Blair Sturrock had been putting in the performances of Tomlin this season he'd be getting hounded out of the club.

I agree it's harsh when you consider how well he's been playing , but Sturrock certainly isn't the first Manager to take a youngster out for a while to give him a breather.
He's just got a couple of very experienced CM's in on loan ( which most on here were rightly championing a couple of weeks back ) , so it's only right he plays them IMO.

That is a very strong and experienced side we have there, fellow Shrimpers. Bench not too shabby either.

Woodyard's time will come again, he hasn't let himself or the team down at all and will get more opportunities.

First goal from a set piece? You heard it here first... Big lads in yellow shirts tonight...

Although Tomlin hasn't scored in open play, his movement and workrate has made chances for Britt. He chases and harries defenders, closing down the ball and forcing the defence into mistakes

I Agree with selection tonight, Freddy and Corr to come on in second half, Woodyard's time will come as already been said. Strong bench fancy us to take all 3 points. Come on you Shrimpers!

Clutching at straws mate, Tomlins job is to score or directly create goals. He does neither.

Freddy or Corr should be playing.

Both are still not fit. I am happy for both to come on as subs to get more match time.

Job? Strange turn of phrase. I would say he has a role to play. If part of that role is to draw players out of position to create space for Britt and a midfielder to make a late run then im all for it.

BBC Essex have some technical difficulties in Bristol so have started with Col Ewe on both radio frequencies.

SORT IT OUT.
