Echo News Bridge certain Blues' best is yet to come this season

JACK Bridge insists Southend United have yet to hit top form this season.

Bridge returned to the Shrimpers’ starting line-up for Saturday’s 2-0 win against Tamworth at Roots Hall.
And, despite Kevin Maher’s side now being unbeaten in four games, Bridge believes Blues will continue to improve.

“There’s still a lot more to come from us,” said Bridge. “We know how good this team we’ve got is and we know we’re better than where we are in the league.

“The last week or so with the results we’ve got hopefully that gives us the confidence to go and play the way we know we can.

“We know we have more than enough quality to do better than we have so far and the last few games definitely gives us the belief we can do it.”

The Shrimpers sit 14th in the standings after winning again at the weekend.

And Bridge was thrilled to return to the starting line-up for the game having been on the bench for previous three outings.

“It was nice to be back in playing again,” said the 29-year-old.

“It’s never nice watching and not being involved but the boys have done well since I’ve come out of the team so it was nice to get in and nice to win too.”

The game also saw Bridge make his 150th appearance for his hometown club.

And he remains proud of reaching the landmark.

“It’s mad really,” said Bridge.

“I didn’t know until I was told in the week and it only felt like I’d done the 100th game not that long ago.

“It’s flown by and I’ m really proud.”

But Bridge has also had to show plenty of patience with the Shrimpers.

“I first signed for Southend when I was eight or nine and left when I was 21 because I didn’t really get to play,” recalled the former Eastwood School pupil.

“I didn’t really have an impact at that time so to come back and play I’m really proud and happy.

“It was great we won on Saturday too.”

But Bridge will now be turning his attentions towards facing League One side Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup at Roots Hall this weekend.

“It’s a bit of a different one and it’s a good one to look forward to,” said Bridge.

“It’s good to have a cup run and hopefully we can show what we’re about against better opposition.

“It’s definitely an exciting game for us and we’ll enjoy it.”
