Brian Hanrahan & Anthony Howard

I saw a couple of items on Monday that both Brian Hanrahan & Anthony Howard had both passed away. Hanrahan veteran BBC correspondent and famous for his despatches from the Falklands. And Howard long serving editor of the New Statesman and IIRC Observer, he was always wheeled out on election nights for his opinions.

RIP both.

I was a big fan of Anthony Howard; it was said of him that he "could see round the next political corner". A real expert.

While we're on the RIPs, shame about Ralph Coates too, he was no age.

I was quite a fan of AH's too.Had no idea RC's had died.Shame.

I counted them out and counted them all back(how to get round a government censor on casulalties, brilliant)RIP.

As diary editor and later biographer of Dick Double Crossman, Anthony Howard was a huge influence on my dissertation. He was also (along with Anthony King) one of the rare voices of reason on Election Night, I suppose we'll be stuck with even more Jeremy Vine inanity rather than actual analysis.

RIP.
