No surprises with Keith Hill's performance on Saturday then.
Glad I left tomorrow's refwatch until now as I would have written about Pat Miller, the original appointee. This was to be his comeback game after failing his pre-season fitness test. However another change:
The referee for tomorrow night's match is now Kevin Wright from Yaxley near Peterborough.
His last Southend match was the lively and successful Colchester away game last season (6 cautions - 4 of which were ours including, of course, Macca). Prior to that he officiated away at Scunthorpe earlier last season. This will be his 7th Southend League match in his 7th season as a League referee and has also refereed one Southend Cup match.
His 5 matches this season have produced just 12 yellows and no reds. He gets a majority of Championship and League One appointments normally which means he is quite highly rated. He has yet to preside over an away win this season. Time for a change.
He is generally a fair official who likes to keep the game flowing if given a chance (which, in fairness, he probably wasn't last time!).
His debut League match was actually at Roots Hall for the victory over Cheltenham at the start of the 03/04 season and the pick of his other matches was our 1-0 win over Forest a couple of years back.
His assistants will be Messrs Davies and Laver, both called Andy and both from Hampshire. David Buck from Kent is 4th Official.
