Question Braintree & Southend ex players.

Rattus Norvegicus

Dullard ①
Bit of a teaser but what does an ex Braintree & an ex Southend United player have in common?

Both have achieved something quite rare in English footie.

One is now in the top division, the other is now towards the end of their career.

Did Gary Hooper ever score at Roots Hall?

I remember seeing a goal away in the League Cup somewhere.
He scored one goal for us at Roots Hall, in a 3-0 League One win over Crewe in October 2007. His other league goal for Blues was at Bournemouth in a 4-1 win in January 2008.

He scored twice in the 3-1 League Cup win against Leeds United at Elland Road in October 2006, which set up the tie against Manchester United the following month.

Yes - the Leeds game. I think we then played Leeds in the league on the following Saturday ......... and lost.

I seem to recall he didn't play many games at home or if he did it was a few minutes as a sub?
Hooper made 24 home appearances amongst 44 for the club in all competitions. 11 of his first 12 Roots Hall appearances were as a substitute (the exception being the Manchester United league cup tie, which was his first home start).

Eventually he would make 8 starts at Roots Hall and 16 substitute appearances. His average minutes per appearance overall at home was 34.46 (21.17 minutes per game in 12 appearances in 2006/07 and 47.75 minutes per game in 12 appearances in 2007/08).
