bradford fire

Horrific.

When I watch it I cant help but think the peope would have had the time to get out but clearly they couldnt have done by the fact 56 died. I guess that just how fast fire can spread.

Awful scenes of the bloke at 5.05 makes me feel awful. Reading the comments seems he died a few days after.

RIP.

Such a sad thing. It is so hard to accept that terrible things, like this and Hillsborough, had to happen so that subjects, like ground safety, will be looked at and improved.

RIP to those 56.

I do remember it being on, the live pictures and the speed with which it spread across the stand. You have to remember the era this happened in as well, Heysel so close to it too. Just one small lighted cigarette or match, that was all it took. I remember thinking about our own East Stand and the wooden framework and seats, and holes that it too used to have underfoot and thinking it could so easily happen at any UK football ground. Absolutely horrific, RIP those who died, may they never be forgotten.

"he's come to watch the football, this is human tragedy"

says it all, that video is unwatchable - nothing like that should ever happen again. RIP the 56

I can't bring myself to look at it, the memory is too vivid. It's like Hillsboro, I can't watch any footage of that either.

Many were trapped trying to get out of turnstiles that would only turn one way. Gabbie Logan was there that day - her dad was Assistant Manager. She did a good prog on Radio 4 about the fire, might still be available.

Edit: Nope, not available due to "rights issues"

Fortunately or unfortunately, however you look at it, I don't need to the footage again as I can still recall the man walking onto the pitch on fire with people trying to smother the flames.

It must be said that the club and the city have remembered the tragedy and mourned their dead in a very dignified manner which does them proud.

What gets me, throughout the clip there are to55ers who seem to think it's all a massive laugh, with their jumping up and down in front of the camera and generally having a good time. Typical northern c*nts

They didnt know really what was happing and from a sensible point of view it kept people from panicking which would have made things far worse.

Really? Thy didn't know what was happening? Come on Os, the stand is on fire. It's not exactly a small fire either, that could have been dealt with, via a saucepan of water. No, the stand is engulfed in flames, with thick black plumes of smoke filling the air. You would have to be i) thick as pig sh*t not to realise just how serious it is, or ii) a complete tw4t. Either way, jumping up and down, and generally making a penis of yourself on tv, whilst all this carnage unfolds, just isn't cricket.

Also, panicking? There seemed like plenty of people who were. Quite remarkably, the only person who wasn't running riot, was the poor sod who was on fire. He seemed quite nonchalant about the whole matter :stunned:

i'm sure there were plenty of idiots who at the time didn't realise the severity. I think that quickly changed.

One thing is for certain, if i was one of those mugs in the clip, who thought it was a party, i'd be ashamed of myself to this day

We have 20 years of media saturation to take into consideration , remember it was a different era , and yes people probably we a little tipsy and elated as well , no no one was aware of the severity and quickness of the fire as the commentator says of teh quickness , as someone says on the comments for the youtube video what was used on the stand caused it to accelerate far quicker then if had simply been a normal wood fire.
