Bradford fire

I think we should all take a couple of seconds out today & remember the 56 victims of the Valley Parade fire which was 21 years ago today.

There was a memorial service held in Bradford earlier this morning.

I remember seeing the live pictures coming in from their (title-winning IIRC) final game & end of season celebrations.  This was also the day that there were pitched battles between Birmingham & Leeds fans at St Andrews (wasn't there a couple of deaths there too?)

Puts a few people bemoaning either side of Saturday's Roots Hall pitch invasion argument into context really doesn't it?

RIP

Dreadful sight of the person sat in the stand alone, engulfed in flames.

I think two died at the Birmingham fracas.

I remember it was the day we managed to avoid having to apply for re-election by beating Torquay 1-0 thanks to a Steve Phillips penalty, and also due to Darlo losing at, possibly Stockport.

RIP

I had to sit through the entire video of the Bradford fire from start to when it had seriously taken hold, as part of a fire safety training course.

It was remarkably quick, but utterly horrific
