Bowling set-up

mcrabb

First XI
I was wondering what people thought I should do with regards to my bowling setup. I pretty much have 6 decent bowlers (none with particularly good batting skills - I haven't got any all-rounders of the quality of some on here)

Tristan Lynch - Quality/Strong - RF Bowler
Fred Brooks - Strong/Proficient - RF Bowler
Owen Mason - Superb/Respectable - RF Bowler
Raymond Larkman - Quality/Proficient - RM Bowler
Dave Nightingale - Strong/Competent - LH Spin
John Scanes - Strong/Wonderful - RH Spin

I currently play Lynch and Brooks as openers with Larkman, Nightingale and Scanes, with Mason switching with Brooks every couple of games. Nightingale is now 26 and isn't being trained (all the other five are on 1 bowling net), so will very soon be replaced by Mason but he has mediocre batting and I tend to prefer the balance of having two fast bowlers and two spinners. What does everyone else think? Should I be dropping him and playing three fast bowlers? Nightingale does have a tendency to be a little expensive, but he often gets useful wickets. His batting isn't much use though to be honest and rarely puts up much of a fight.

I think that its nice that you have the option and that was what i was thinking about when i decided to train up another bowler over a batter. I think its all down to what kind of pitch you play on in any individual game and looking at who the oppo's best batter(s) struggle against! If they play well against the fast bowlers, perhaps bringing on a spinner first change could be a good option, or if they dont play Medium pacers well, then try to bring them in around the 10 over mark!
