BT is a bowler's game. I am top of my III with 4 wins from 4, and all of my 5 bowlers are in the top 10 of the league averages.

How many of us have a really balanced bowling attack? Despite my bowlers' success so far, I wouldn't say I do, as I have a quality as a 5th bowler (2 levels down at least on the rest).

Thoughts? Is the best approach to eradicate bowling weaknesses before deepening the batting? It's certainly the approach I've taken/am still taking, but I'm wondering what the rest of you think.

You know what me and B will say! My 5 bowlers look like this:

sensational/exquisite
exceptional/wonderful
wonderful/miraculous
remarkable/exceptional
quality/exquisite

So quality is my 5th bowler but the 2ndaries more than make up for that and it is Jackman and he's as consistant as anyone else!

Lets look at my best 2 batters!

remarkable/sensational
remarkable/quality

That says it all!

:D

And you both win enough games to justify it. I've yet to find myself struggle against a side that's more geared towards the batting.

My bowlers:

sensational/sensational
sensational/sensational (both are being trained to exquisite)
exceptional/remarkable (still in training)
wonderful/wonderful
quality/exceptional

The batting:

sensational/exquisite
exceptional/exceptional (both above getting trained)
wonderful/wonderful
remarkable/exquisite

And that's it. A quality, superb and 2 proficients are in the batting too.

Me and B have pretty much got our bowling sorted, unless we were to ever reach the top level, although saying that we are both nigh on elite/elite bowling. The problem IN THE LONG RUN is going to be wages. I know its already a problem for B and now im training up 3 out and out batters and an all-rounder, mine are going to rocket and will probably be £250,000 p/w come next season!

To be honest, you have a better allround team than me (looking at in on paper) and im sure if we played each other 5 times, we'd both beat each other! Going back to your originally question, personally, making sure your bowling is upto scratch is crucial! If one bowler goes for 60 runs, it could easily cost you the game! I think we are pretty fortunate we have a nice forum like this to discuss things and give advice to the newer players. I wish i had been given some half decent advice at the start as i dont really feel like i did anything in the first 2 seasons!

Quality isn't that bad, but it depends on the secondaries. My weakest bowler is remarkable, but has strong stamina and wonderful consistency.

I started out as a bowler dominated team, but I think my batting is probably stronger now. I think the main difference between batting and bowling is that it is easier to hide a weak batsman than it is to hide a weak bowler. 4 top quality bats is normally sufficient to get a competitive total, but if you have only 4 top quality bowlers, your 5th will get hit all over the park (in one-day cricket at least, in first class your problem is fitness levels).

Plums and Fettis end next pop leaving me ten nets devoted to batsmen and a bowling attack of 2 masterfuls, an exquisite and 2 sensationals.

My wages are over 300k now so I have to tone down the top end, those ten nets will soon end up on 3 youngsters so won't have much in terms of wage increases for a couple of seasons.

Haha, a chance for me to prove why I'm so bad! My batting reads:

Exquiste/Sensational
Remarkable/Sensational
Remarkable/Quality
Quality/Wonderful
Quality/Superb
Strong/Strong
Strong/Mediocre
Proficient/Mediocre
Respectable/Mediocre

Hence why we get skittled for so little. 1, 2, 5, 8 and 9 of that lot are training though. Season after next I reckon we'll be riding high in II.
