ineresting article on the Beeb their chairman is blunt about the prospects of even entertaining a new stadium development! makes you wonder if the lack of building/news about the stadium is just purely because of the financial climate, Fossets plans made during what was the economical boom, and now ron is finding himself commited but unable to complete any plans. a major, case of terrible timing and ron is unable to cut is losses and back out with the sale of roots hall to sainsburys etc.
anyone in the know, know?

I honestly believe something real bad is going to occur regarding this, how in the hell are we to get financing for this project, are we able to tell sainsburys to do one, could be brighton mark 2

But if there is no site available , no buyer for the onward sale of priestfield, no plans or planning permission in place then the situation is a tad different to ours.

That said the difficulty in securing the rental contracts for the retail units at FF , which I have no doubt is both due to the current economic situation and the cause of the delay in securing the nessecary funding to start the project, is a tad worrying, especially given that the only contracts which do seem to be in place are the ones which involve flattening RH

would love to hear some positive news dont get me wrong and I certainly not a conspiracy theorist but we need the development to actually start IMO now more than ever and we have been told on more than one occasion that buildng will start only for nowt to happen, also when a club like liverpool hace to put stadium building on hold makes me wonder how we gonna pull it off

If the information is truly confidential, one has to question the integrity of him sharing it with a supporter merely because he showed concern and asked. Shouldn't shareholders be put in the picture before random supporters (who may or may not be shareholders) ?

Ron said months ago that the credit crunch meant we were unable to secure the necessary funding.

Homer is a shareholder, supporter and all-round love god.

I very much doubt RM has said anything that he, or other directors haven't said on other occasions - it's just not always reported and analysed as thoroughly as most of what he says is on here. Others of us have said there was no problem as well you know.

i would trust RM to secure the funding for the stadium more that stuck up little prick the gillingham chairman scully a very dodgy character from some of the stories i have heard about him from gills supporters over the years

Here's a point. The plan is to move to a new stadium so we have more finances to deal with what the going costs of being a football club. But, because so many clubs are improving their finances (getting a new stadium) will we get to a stage in 5-10 years time when everyone is spending even more so we'll be in the same situation again.

We're trying other revenue streams but the point stands.

All the units at FF are rented out already i believe

It is worrying how things have taken so long, buts it also easily understandable why they have. Working in construction you hear every week about certain companies having to shut projects down because of running out money due to the rising boom of materials.

I wouldn't worry about the retain units because as has been said most of them have already been rented out... thats bound to be fact because its a prime location, imagine how busy a shopping center is normally on a Saturday afternoon... now add 15,000 (just a ballpark figure) to that, plus any wives & family who fancy coming along to do bit of shopping whilst the fella is at the match.

How have we managed to pre let the retail units when we have not got permission for the revised plans , (which covers the retail unit ?)

I was writing for a football magazine last year and we had Iffy Onuora in to the office. He said when he was at Gillingham anmyone who shook Scally's hand would check if they still had their watch afterwards!
