Echo News Blues in discussions over defender's future

Not really tested against a decent striker so I can't put him in the Rio Ferdinand bracket, but tbf I thought he held the Braintree onslaught together at the back in Crowther's absence. I know his skills are pretty and he can step out of defence and lay a lovely ball, but does he lose his **** when the ball goes past him on a wet Sat up at York City or a big throw into our box at Tamworth? Time will tell, if he comes back on loan I'll be happy enough.
Was quite impressed with Gubbins the other day, another one with a bit to prove.

Akinde is a 'decent' striker/forward at this level IMHO. He may not be up there with the best of this league, but he can pose problems for defenders and Golding marshalled him out of the game pretty well.

It was very doubtful whether Akinde would be fit enough to take part. He had to be substituted soon after half-time.

Wanted - Southend United are keen to keep James Golding (Image: Daniel Hambury/Focus Images Ltd)

By Chris Phillips@cjphillips1982Chief sports reporter.

SOUTHEND United are in talks to extend James Golding's loan spell from Oxford United.

The centre-back has made three appearances since signing for the Shrimpers at the start of December.

But Blues are in discussions to keep Golding until the end of the season.

Shrimpers boss Kevin Maher confirmed: "We're looking to extend that until the end of the season.

"We're just waiting for confirmation and the paper work to be done."

Maidenhead contact said they had no reports of problems with him there and he was disappointed when Golding got recalled.

I'm happy we have got Golding for the season. Good player.
