Blues all set for shake-up?

http://www.echo-news.co.uk/theblues/4217087.Blues_all_set_for_shake_up_/
SOUTHEND United’s assistant manager Paul Brush has hinted there may be changes for tomorrow’s home clash with Carlisle United.
The Shrimpers have played their last 10 games during a hectic 32 day schedule.
And Brush believes the time could have come to freshen up the side.
“We will have a look at how one or two players are but it could be that it’s time to make some changes,” confirmed Brush.
“We’ve had a lot of games in a short space of team and we need to do what we can with our small squad to try and keep the team fresh.
“We also want to give other people a chance and I’m sure that will happen in the next couple of games.”
Among those pushing for a recall are right-back Simon Francis and winger Damian Scannell.
He has impressed as a substitute in Blues’ last two games at Hereford United and Swindon Town and 23-year-old is now being considered for a start.
“There weren’t too many plus points from the game at Swindon on Tuesday night but the way Damian played when he came on was one of them,” said Brush.
“He was also very positive when he came on at Hereford last weekend and is one who could soon be getting a chance.”
Scannell last started for the Shrimpers against AFC Telford in November but has fought his way back into contention.
And Brush also hopes key midfielder Alan McCormack will be in contention after missing Blues’ last two matches with a groin problem.
“We’re hopeful that Macca will be able to play,” said the former Southend defender.
“We will have to see how he is today in training and then go from there.”
The Shrimpers are currently 10th in the League One table, six points from the play-offs.
Prior to losing 3-0 to Swindon Town on Tuesday night they had triumphed in eight of their last 10 games and Brush wants to see an immediate return to form.
“After a terrific opening 10 minutes we fell away which was a huge disappointment,” he said.
“We can’t do that again and Carlisle will certainly be up for it as well because they will want more points to move further away from the relegation zone.
“They are always hard to play against, they are dangerous from set pieces and have two lively strikers so we will have to be on form to get the better of them.”

Playing Sacnnell and Francis is hardly a shake up. I was expecting 4 or 6 changes. What he means is that he will start with 2 of the subs he has been using over the last few games.

Who's to say the left won't be changed?

If Scanell comes in, it might not be a straight swap, he & Betsy could play on he wings with Moussa moving infield and Christophe or Grant dropping out.

A great bit of man-management from Brushy, gives the fringe players encouragement and gives the current first team food for thought.

Making wholesale changes ie. the 4 or 6 mentioned by SportBilly would surely have a detrimental affect on morale after we've had such a good run lately.

I think if we lose our next few games, and our play-off hope is dead, we should be tryin g to blood the youngsters, i.e. peggy lokando, charles adameno, callum whittaker, justin hazell. afterall if we've nothing to play for, let some of the younger promising talent shine for a while

No its not really, but with our form Id rather there werent major changes anyway.

Yes, may not have explained myself enough really. I really don't think major changes would benefit us as you say. I saw the headline on the back page of the Echo earlier and my first thought was towards a lot of changes. A shake-up was probably the wrong phrase to use, as that insinuates quite a change, but as it looks as though it could just be Scannell and Franno, I would be happy with that, after all, they have both come on a few times recently and look ok, especially Scannell, so maybe not a shake-up, more of a rest for certain players.

Ademeno is at Salisbury for the rest of the season

Simple changes.

herd at left back, Barrett had a shocker at Swindon and lacks pace.

Scannell for moussa, so at least we have two wingers in the right position, although Betsy isnt exactly an out and out winger.

JFC, not at the races Tuesday, bring Macca back in with either moussa or Grant.

mayb, Francis for Sankofa. No probs with sankofa, but francis offers a bit more going forward.

I think what Brush means by a shake up is a radical overhaul of the team. Dont be suprised if you see Mildenhall playing upfront tomorrow with Clarke playing wide right.
