Bit quiet on the embargo front....

I expected a big announcement on the OS followed by a pic like this of everyone signing their contracts!:

Anyone been in touch with the FA again to find out when it will be lifted?

Guess its down to the FA now. If Ron is good to his word (dont!) then he has contacted the FA as of yesterday, so we are probably waiting for the red tape.

I picture a similar scene to the above, but on the pitch tonight.

Reminds me of the time Carl Peteffer signed for us and he came out hobbling on crutches to put pen to paper... good times.

It'll save Scrivs a bit of time just having to write one article for the website, but will Sainsbury's be underwriting the cost of the new wide angle lens that will be necessary to fit in 14 gurning players?

Indeed - I remember it well, Jeff Allen gave him the big build up too!

Jeff Allen..... whatever happened to him? Used to be a big noise around these parts.

Was thinking the same myself. Been on here and the official site on and off all day waiting for the good news. Could this be yet another broken promise? On BBC essex this morning, RM said that all 14 players would be signed officially prior to kick off against West Ham.

The fact we can register another 9/10 players even if the embargo is still in place by Saturday should ease the nerves ever so slightly. Of course it isn't ideal, but we'll at least be able to compete with Stockport.

Impressive logos down the side, but all his work seems to be on modelling/catwalk shows!

"Former breakfast television presenter"??? Don't remember seeing him on the sofa next to BBC or GMTV babes?!

Yeah I think he did some work on BBC Breakfast - hardly a presenter though.

He was a great PA. If I remember rightly he was sacked/quit after an argument with the club. I miss him saying "Welcome to Roots Hall.... the home.... of SOUUUTHEND UNIIIIIITEEEEED!"

He used to writhe about in Lingerie on Early Bird on Channel 912 from 5.30 a.m. until 9 a.m. - that counts.

AKA Geoff Cox. Does same thing for speedway as well. Also DJs in Indian restaurants.

Nope, he's gone back to his model agency work.

Aka Garry Coles as well

I recall a big spat on the Yahoo list with him at one stage.

Didn't he have an argument with the Aussie ? marketing manager a few years back and his girlfriend came on here moaning about it....

Yeah this is true. In the season we won League One I ended up in the corporate hospitality at Gillingham as I couldn't get a ticket in the away end. Loads of fellow shrimpers did the same and on my table during the meal was the brother of this Geoff Cox guy. He told me that his brother had been sacked and the club had treated him appallingly. Apparently he turned up for work one night and they told him he was no longer required. How true this is I don't know but as I say it came from his brother and Geoff himself was on the next table but I never got to speak to him.

I told him that the new guy was no where near as enthusiastic towards the role and I stick by that statement today.

I was there as well with Barry Bore, and we had a chat with Geoff/Jeff himself. God he was bitter. However, Brian Dear, Dave Crown and Teddy Taylor more than made up for it. The champagne was a nice touch as well.

Yeah £40 a head was a bargain. I thought the only downside to the whole day would be not being able to sing if we scored. Mark Bentley scored and it soon became apparent I was surrounded by fellow shrimpers and the chants began. This caused uproar in the home support (and rightly so in my view) and some of their fans were thrown out for threatening us.

maybe if they hadn't plied us with beer, wine and champagne we wouldn't have been chanting!!!

great day though.
