Bird Flu

What's your take on the whole bird flu thing?

I'm firmly in the Michael Moore conspiracy camp.
I feel this is being hyped, peoples fears are being played with up until a point carefully orchestrated to reach fever pitch, then a major event by America / The West will occur such as the invasion of Iran.
A simple bait and switch scenario done previously by America and the U.K governments to hide real and aggressive behaviours.

top conspiracy theory..
this one is amusing, we live in a country where if 15 farmers say diesel is too expensive and they are going to park their tractors outside a B.P. in west dibly,  8 million people will s%&te themselves and queue up for 2 hours to fill up their car (which probably had 1/2 a tank full anyway) at £1.10 a litre....
look at the panic created by B.S.E and samonella in eggs..  niether of which has proved to be the end of civilisation..
but when we come to a potential flu outbreak no one gives a crap..  most people cant remember a proper flu outbreak.. most people dont precieve flu to be a killer..   it will be a bit like a cold and few days off work..  in fact when people phone in sick saying they have flu they nearly always have a cold..
the last big flu outbreak killed millions (spanish flu wasn't it? probably came from javea
wink.gif
)  ...imagine that 2 million dead people in this country..   either its to big for people to comprehend or we have just had enough of scare stories..  personally i blame the name.. i mean 'bird flu'..  hardly up there with smallpox or tuberculosis is it..?
.
.
whats the next big news,  it may be cold this winter.. no really, cold in winter!  get out of here!

Nice one for the conspiracy theorists that is for sure. After WW1 there was a global pandemic of i think Spanish flu which killed over 60 million people. Then in the 60's Hong Kong flu which wiped out a few million more.

My feeling with this one that it is being over hyped, by all accounts 60 people have died for what has been attributed to bird flu in the Far East, when you consider the populations of China & India probably top 2 billion then 60 is very few. The SARS thing last year seemed more dangerous, and this was also linked to living within the proximity of birds.

I agree with Canv that when people call in sick with "flu" they don't have the first idea. I was laid up with a flu bug a few years back and i could barely get out of bed for 5 days i was that weak. Any flu bug will be dangerous to the weak, old and the vulnerable, and would say that you should consider having a jab to help ward off the onslaught.

It really does not take too much for people to get into a panic about things, petrol is one. I also remember a few years back a rumour of a sugar shortage, and you were greeted by the sight of people coming out of Tesco's with trolley loads of sugar which would have kept a small nation for about 5 years, let alone a family of 4. This is the latest panic story, the forecast harsh winter will ne next. If we do have a severe winter then it is the same group of people who are in the most danger.

They already are scaremongering about how severe the coming winter will be or is that what you were saying?

I have to agree with most comments that it's all over-hyped garbage so far & possibly designed to deflect interest from the latest piece of imperialism those nutters Bush & Blair have got planned!

Which reminds me of two birds standing on a perch, one says to the other "Can you smell fish?"

I think it's a load of bollix myself. Scaremongering to the extreme.

Heard a fantastic quote about this last night.

65 people globally have died of Avian Flu and the whole world is panicking.

65 children globally die of Aids related diseases every hour and no one gives a damn.
