Billy Paynter appreciation thread

Sean 2

Director
My heart sank as i heard on the radio more than once that a chance had fallen to Billy from X amount of yards out, only to be mightily relieved as he blasted high\wide today.
After the JCR debacle of going out of the cup to a real fluky goal from someone who started the season with us i must admit i felt the writing was on the wall a little bit as Billy jumped off the bench today.

All i can say is thanks Billy.

Please leave your thanks to the great man below.

hear hear... long live Billy, he has more than repaid his transfer fee in my eyes!

Billy, i was on the edge of my seat listening to Blues World praying you would miss each of the chances that fell your way at the end - I'm not sure if it was God, your fear of hurting the poor little old net with the football, or just your overall naffness today that intervened - but I am very thankful for the 3 points.

Muchos gracias sir :)

Don't care what anyone else says, it was nice to see the genuine affection between our players and Billy before the game. The guy did nothing wrong when he was at Southend, he just wasn't given a chance.

I will sign your thank you note.

How do you propose to send it to him !

Aint it the truth - Aint it the truth

Yes up at Birmingham last year, he laid 2 on a plate for Freddie [failed to convert both].

No doubt he has a football brain, but his own finishing/pace is maybe not up to Championship level - and we must be looking for players of that quality/potential - shoot for the stars.

As a target man I was impressed last night with Bristol Rovers centre forward, bit like Drew [a battering ram] with attitude and no small level of skill
can't recall his name.

I am guessing you mean Rickie Lambert, think there were rumours doing the rounds in January that Bristol Rovers had turned down a bid from Southend for him (probably £200k before we went in for Walker & Revell). Tilson is known to be an admirer of Lambert's qualities as a striker.

Bit dissapointed with the reception he got considering he was never given the chance at Southend.

Very pleased that he missed the chances he did

Thank you Billy!

You proved that your shooting is consistently awful and not just with when you was with us.

He would be a real target man, attract/distract centre backs and leave others much more room to operate.

Impressive and made Swans blond haired centre back look pretty inept.

Stop thread diverting, keep on topic and join West Road's Society....jeeeeeez

i really do feel bad for paynter now as whilst with us he didn't do anything wrong other than be simnply not good enough. he did always put the effort in. i think he did have his chance so don't agree when people say he didn't have his chance. when he did play he did very little and thats why he never played. he obviously wasn't proving himself in trainging as he wasn't even on the bench half the time. still he didn't deserve to be booed.
