I'll give him credit for his first season, and, in fact, he is leaving us in no better position than at the equivalent stage of that season. Stagnation is his middle name.

I will wager £20 to Little Havens that we will be worse off on this date next year. In other words, unless PB has left by then (in which case I win), if our position is ninth or higher or our points total is 55 points or higher then you win and I pay Little Havens £20. If, however, neither our points total nor our position is better than today, you lose and pay Little Havens £20. That gives you the House edge.

It looks likely that I will have to pay up, but it is a damned close run thing. Unless we beat Oxford on Monday night, we will have fewer points than this time last season, and if we lose to Oxford and Daggers beat Accrington, then our hold on 9th place will only be by virtue of a marginal Goal Difference advantage. My £20 is ready to post....
