Best beer for a curry?

Hazey

Going for an indian with the lads tonight at a bring your own drink place. I know theres already a beer thread somewhere but had a more specific question. Which beer would you say goes best with a nice curry?

I normally like a chicken tikka dansak or something similar, to be honest even the curry I'm getting a bit bored of the same thing but trying something completely different can be a gamble, as my mate found out when he ordered something that resulted in his skin colour resembling a tomato from the heat.

To be honest I prefer cider with curry, although Cobra or Kingfisher are spot on.

I always drink this stuff with a takeaway curry. Its an Indian Pale Ale and its gorgeous with food, as its name suggests.

I think it may have been rembranded recently by Greene King though and I can't remember what its now called.

Edit: Apparently its now called Greene King Hop. The bottles have also been reduced from 750ml to 500ml. Sad days indeed!

Yes, good stuff.

There is a 5.7% IPA called Old Empire which also hits the spot.

Old Empire

BTW - India Pale Ale was brewed for export to India, not specifically to be drunk with Indian food.

Possibly not a good idea to remind those cooking your meal who used to run the show but I would imagine that you are a lot less likely to end up with the 'special' sauce than the idiots who still see bud bud ding ding and shoembomber jokes as an essential part of the Tandoori experience.

I was in India a few weeks back, and Kingfisher is the only beer to drink. All the locals drink it.

ps Cobra is brewed in England.

I also enjoy a few bottles of whilst having a curry:-

Infact I will be washing down a Madras tonight with a few of these bad boys tonight!

Cobra or Tiger is my view. I've even had a couple of G&T's with curry's before. Not too bad, but either of the 2 beers i've mentioned are better.
