Not for Bermuda at short notice in the height of Summer it ain't.

This was my post on another Southend Web site.. people saying how good our pre-season games are!! heres my reply. discuss!!!

I spend most of my life in Essex, our pre season away games what you really look forward to where it is gonna be baking hot and a proper laugh somewhere different, and Its in f%&king Essex!!

Why not pop across to France for a couple of games. or Holland, what are we gonna achive playing against GW or Chelmsford, i could f%&king play and you wouldn't notice the difference..

We are a Championship club now..

i suppose we could get used to playing teams like that,then Leeds turn up and smash us 5-0.

Agree with you there mate, every pre season we always get crap games. Know we are in the championship surely we can get to play against better teams than the likes of borient, wakering and chemlsford. To you think portsmouth will really bring there first team very unlikely.

I can't believe how cynical and suspicious some of you lot are.

SotW is obviously flying over Germany on his way to China whilst a World Cup match is taking place.  He will then spend the rest of the tournament watching it from Ladyboy Linda's Leering Lounge in Shanghai.  

He was also going to Bangkok until he found out that it was a city and not a request from said ladyboy bar.

I don't agree, KTF. I pray we never turn into one of those "we are too big for this" teams, eg Forest who are too big for League One.

The purpose of the games against the likes of GW and Chelmsford is to allow them to play some decent opposition, thus fulfilling our duties to neighbouring clubs, and to give our new and fringe players a chance to settle in without having to play out of their skins from the word go. How helpful is it for our players to go into the season on the back of a few thrashings before they have even learnt their new team mate's names?

Tilly sets up these friendlys for a purpose, and that is good enough for me.

Indeed, the local derbies against the small clubs have their place.

Would be nice to get another premiership side though, after all Leyton Orient at home isnt the highest profile game.

I always enjoy the friendlies against non-league sides, I'm all for helping out local sides. Great Wakering must be chuffed with us parading the trophy at their friendly, guarantees them a decent gate and therefore a bit of extra dosh to help kick off their season.

As has been said, also allows us to try out young and fringe players without the pressure of playing opposition better than their level.

We play Great Wakering Rovers, and Southampton play Eastleigh, and Pompey play Leigh RMI year in year out. Why moan when it will always happen. Probably coz Canvey have got Spurs!!!

Anyway, really wish I could go to Bermuda, but money is sooo very tight. Can't justify spending that on a 4 day trip! Damn shame tho!
